I remember reading someone (Regina? I've read too many things, can't remember who said what) saying that the Charr have abandoned their false gods and Shamans, but the Shamans didn't just go away. I'm expecting to see them as some kind of antagonist force driven by Primordus, as TF1 suggested. RoseOfKali RoseOfKaliSIG.png 17:20, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
I thought it looked suspiciously like this Charr Effigy. Notice how that one is more 'Destroyer-like' than the ones in game. --Macros 00:06, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
But Charr Effigy are made of wood (and metal) -- F1Sig.png † F1© Talk 15:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
So? Why would that matter 250 years in the future? If that is a Charr Shaman in the picture, then it could be a Charr Effigy, since Charr Effigies are created and controlled by the Shamans. Maybe it was creating one, summoning one, or becoming one. Who knows what they've learned to do. --Macros 16:40, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Those 2 last pics are charr... Check out the horns, fangs, etc. And about the first pic, regina said about it that the shamans are still around. You remember Duncan the Black? My guess is that the shamans did something similar, or recieved a gift of power or something from primmy in exchange for servitude.--TalkpageEl_Nazgir 17:32, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah the last one is Charr. But the 2e one... is chest has no hair and his tatoes a re norn like. But than again the last one also has tatoes. But I think I stay with my first opinion. It's a Norn Polar Bear now[edit source]

GW 2 Trailer Image 4.jpg

Yeah, that seemed odd for me too, more than one bear form with different buffs perhaps 18:18, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
It was said in an interview that Norn can shapeshift into "beasts," which implies it may not be just the bear, and I'm sooo totally going Snow Leopard! Also, the original intention in the EotN was for them to shift into a wolf, raven and owl also (people even dug up the skill icons for them in the dat file, maybe just owl and wolf, but the owl looked like ORLY owl :P), but the idea was abandoned due to technical problems, and they kept just the bear. This bear looks...boring?--74.70.73.106 21:03, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, If you look on the trailer, they dont show norn in any bear form other than the polar bear. So really, I bet they realized that it made no sense for the northlanders of the cold regions would transform into grizzlys. I bet the polar bear is just the new bear, and the brown bear just wont happen anymore. As for the other beasts, they said there would be others, but I didnt see them in the trailer. Prolly just because were still pre-alpha, the other forms may not be in yet. A quote from a friend: "I hope the norns' animals arent just Avatar of the gods 2.0, because that would be dumb. Like the avitars of the gods." Shadowshear 20:37, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Are you sure it's the Charr? I thought it was an Asuran city. The Charr don't strike me as the kind of race that would care about technological advancement that much. Kamiya 16:33, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Someone somewhere at Anet said that the Charr have abandoned their false gods and embraced the technology of war or something along those lines. They're also the ones with guns, so this fits them the most. Asura have the magical gates and giant floating energy cube thingamabobbers. RoseOfKali RoseOfKaliSIG.png 17:05, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

In one of the magazine interviews I read that they intend to make underwater exploration easy and enjoyable, without having to worry about running out of air all the time. After seeing the swimming naga in the trailer, my guess is that you will ride them underwater just like riding wurms in the Desolation, but that's just my personal guess. Comparing the role to other games that have chonomancers, if they were added it would seem like they would take the place of mesmers my favorite class D: Lost-Blue 20:47, September 5, 2009 (UTC)
Did the assassin or the Dervish replace the Warrior, or the Ritualist the Necro? Nope. AN has never replaced one class with another, many have been similar but they've all had unique strategies.Kamiya 21:48, September 13, 2009 (UTC)
Except Anet may very well remove, or at least combine, certain classes in GW2, as one of the main reasons they decided to abandon GW1 and start over with GW2 was because they couldn't manage all of the skills in the game. There are too many to properly balance, the game is bloated with both useless and imba skills. I am certain there will be fewer classes and skills in GW2, unless Anet is completely oblivious and make the same mistake twice. --Macros 23:01, September 13, 2009 (UTC)
First chore is to conveniently "forget" to put Izzy on the payroll and "accidentally" put someone else in the slot --Gimmethegepgun 00:01, September 14, 2009 (UTC)
Not quite, Macros. I'm sure they could have just as many professions and skills, and do just fine for balance. I think they wanted to start over because of game mechanics. There are loads of things they are going to change with GW2. Adding new game mechanics, and learning from the balancing of GW1, they can have well over 1,000 skills and balance just fine. New game mechanics means new functions, which means lots of new possibilities for skills, and less duplicates, and less skills with inferior near-duplicates.--Darksyde 01:20, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
I remember a discussion where Anet hinted at the fact that there are, in fact, too many skills in the game, partly because of 10 professions, and partly because of the introduction of new skills for core professions in Factions and Nightfall on top of the Prophecies skill set. It makes things unnecessarily complicated, and that's why there are so many skills that just never get used, they got left behind and forgotten, and fell out of the balancing lists. The game would have been just fine with half the number of current skills, or even fewer. RoseOfKali RoseOfKaliSIG.png 01:44, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

I'm just excited about new game mechanics, when it comes to skills, tbh. "When struck in the back", or "If this attack hits the head" would be neat. Or maybe some hexes with effects that change over time, like "This foe suffers from -5 degen for 1..5 seconds, then -4 degen for 1...4 seconds, then -3 degen for 1..3 seconds." I just hope they don't dumb down skills so the retards can understand them, ultimately making the skills worse, like Pious Restoration, and Meditation. =/--Darksyde 04:43, October 31, 2009 (UTC)

From RT's blog[edit source]

Incase you missed it, GW2 now has a trailer. It's about 5 mins long, and I'm going to give some opinions. It was mostly concept art, but there were a few awesome things:

Things that looked awesome[edit source]

  • The day/night sweep, I may speculate that GW2 will have day/night, but I can't be certain that this is the case, anyway - night looks much better than night in EQ2, and in Oblivion, the moon effect was beautiful (<3).
  • Some of the Asuran tech looked immense
  • Water effects and underwater environments are top class
  • Running animations (for what seemed to be charr)
  • Environments in general are top class
  • The music, a redux of the GW:EN overture was probably the best thing about the trailer.

Observations[edit source]

  • Looks like there won't be a good/evil race split (something to rolplay only, perhaps). Mentions races allying
  • Some of the gameplay footage looked like GW1 footage, nothing too new
  • Keep in mind the final trailer for GW1, which used artistic license up the wazoo.

Comments most welcome RandomTime 18:40, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

F1's blogy (sort of in the make thingy)[edit source]

I don't there will be a good/evil split but the Charr still rule over most parts of Ascalon so they won't be that close to them. And ofcourse the Charr them self aren't a really friendly and warm people. So it will be a fun group of "people" :D

Also I think that they keep in mind that most people will chose a different race instead of the humans. As they are killed in the wars. So there will be a lot less humans.

I sure hope that you just can walk because the Charr run is great. But I get crazy if I walk like that forever -- F1Sig.png † F1© Talk 20:58, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't get it[edit source]

What exactly is so great about this trailer? I hear everyone else fawning over how ut;s cikk omg omg omg <3~ but I'm not really impressed. Of course the graphics are nice: GW has one of the nicer graphics engines right now, and the one thing they never disappoint on is the art department. I would naturally expect GW2 to be better, and if this is what the gameplay will eventually look like, then yeah it's a bit better. Good job. But...so what? :\ Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 06:47, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

/agree with that, prehaps it's because we're in a desert as far as GW2 news is concerned, and any news is water, which the community flocks around because there's so little. That said, the underwater locations were spectacular. RandomTime 08:51, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm just really excited that my feet aren't going to be glued to the ground anymore. The first thing I'm going to do when I make a character in GW2 is jump into the water and swim away, enjoying every second of it. Kamiya 16:29, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Heh, next thing you know you'll have to tame the naga to swim like the wurms in the Desolation now (I think that's what's gonna happen, based on the trailer), and it'll be halfway into the game. :P RoseOfKali RoseOfKaliSIG.png 17:08, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
If that's right I'll be so pissed I might just kill someone. Kamiya 17:53, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, in one of the interviews they said that they don't want to make swimming like in some other games where you constantly have to worry about running out of air and feel constrained in what you can do underwater/for how long. This implies that rather than wearing giant bubble heads, we will have some means of transportation underwater to allow for carefree exploration, and still make sense as to why the heck we haven't suffocated yet. Sulfurous haze immediately comes to mind, and we did see those giant nagas swimming underwater in the trailer. RoseOfKali RoseOfKaliSIG.png 18:21, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

The Dragon[edit source]

Ok, What if.. Glint's Baby that you save in the Glint's Challenge mission is the dragon or in some way on the side of the dragon. Its possible Trueblade 05:47, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually... no, it's not. Anet has said that these dragons are much more ancient than Glint herself and Kuunavang. These two have been called "babies" compared to the true Ancient Dragons, who are what we're going to fight in GW2. They went dormant looong before Glint and Kuuna were born. And I doubt that Glint would spoil her baby enough that it decides to go uber-evil and try to destroy the world that his mommy worked so hard to save in the Flameseeker Prophecies. RoseOfKali RoseOfKaliSIG.png 06:23, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

If anything, the baby might grow up and become an ally of the "good guys," like his mommy. RoseOfKali RoseOfKaliSIG.png 06:31, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Ok.. New theory: The baby grows up by the time the players enter the game. THEN she tests the players if they are strong enough or part of some prophecy. After that joins the humans and obliterates the undead in some series of missions. And in the final mission she is the reason why the players win cause she deals the final strike! oh Trueblade 16:44, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
Glint's power isn't even close to the ancient dragons, and shes like 3000+ or something, the baby is however long it takes between GW1 and GW2 (isn't that 200 years or something?) old. Dragons take time to age and gain power, but the baby (I don't think we know its gender yet) probably will have some role, just not as big as your making it out to be.--Łô√ë Roar.îğá†ħŕášħ 19:49, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't think It's to bad as long as we don't get sci-fi guns, old blunderbusses are pretty cool

If they dont put bows it they'll ruin it. bows are awsome and it wouldmt be the same without them. Anet will probs just upgrade them to flasher mats and can upgrade them more/different

Classes/Races[edit source]

I'm guessing Sylvari bring things to life of change certain objects and have ancient magic bla, Asura are obsessed with weaponry, Norn transform into different beasts, Charr and human seem to be quite plain compared but may have there own powers. The whole story and design seems pretty complex compared to GW1, like it's 5 different games into one. They said in the interview that you can just go one way and follow a story in your own way, instead of going Mission to mission. I really hope they release this soon :] and not in 2011 like people keep saying.

Well I'm more leaning toward there are some bonuses and abilities unique to each race, like the Norn's shifting, but I think that you will pick both a race and class, so you can be a Norn hunter, a Norn Warrior, or a Norn whatever else, but no matter what class you pick you will always be able to shift into animal from and it will provide a buff that would benefit any class you can pick. Kamiya 19:20, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
I'd guess there's probably some shared classes among the races (probably very similar to the 6 Core classes now) but each race probably also has at least 1 unique class (such as Asuran Golemancers or something, which were rather obvious in the trailer) --Gimmethegepgun 20:04, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
iirc a-net anounced that all races will have access to all classes, and i have enough confidence in them to make norn mesmer just as good as asuran mesmer. i'd imagine the racial benefits would enhance all skills in general, rather than a category of them. or perhaps norn will have discovered a new spirit to 'form' into that makes them good spell casters. (on a side note, no, i don't want to play a norn mesmer. charr, human, or asuran ele all the way for me.Akbaroth 01:07, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
They may still add race specific classes, we've got a while till the games released. Personally I think that racial benefits will be a mix between passive bonuses (e.g health, energy, dmg, armour...) and race specific skills or items (e.g golems, controlling of plants, norn shifting...) Who knows, your race might even effect that personal "hero(s)" that you can have with you. -Shemp September 25, 2009

I would have to say that i think there will be a benefit for each race. however i dont think it'll be skill related, but mayb max health or energy or regen speeds. Mayb each race will recieve a buff due to the environment. In the Dragons Den mission and in the vortex explorable areas your party gets environment effects, this could be the same in GW2 but they're good effects, in EotN you get a buff in vanguard or norn etc areas when equipping their title, mayb Anet will do the same in GW2

Naga[edit source]

Ok those Nagas are really bugging me. First of all what are they doing in Ascalon? I thought they were in Cantha? They weren't in Ascalon, were they? And they are not the Forgotten, because if you pause it and look, they only have 2 hands and a skinny body, from head to tail. Everything is in game, so it's not like they MADE it up. Right now I can think of two explinations. 1) It's a cutscene, like when they introduced Ascalon in the pre-searing when you first start out. The cutsecene is just showing stuff around Ascalon, and it shows the Nagas. 2) They are a playable race(very, very unlikely). Perhaps we learn how to explore underwater from them. So what do you guys think? Oh and I forgot to mention, remember how all the "Non-Human" races were driven out of Cantha....--74.70.73.106 21:00, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

[update]: I found this on guildwiki; "According to the Factions manuscripts, the intelligent Naga were in the past a species of merchants and artisians who were at peace with the Humans, until the Jade Wind nearly destroyed the entire race. If not for the Naga priestess Hanasha Coralfin, who united the less than 40 remaining Naga and established a warlike and expansive culture that seeks vengeance on the humans who they blame for their catastrophe."- Because they were driven out of Cantha, they probably hated the humans even more. Well since they no longer live in Cantha, they start a new life in Ascalon? Made a pact with the Charrs, who also hate the humans? Notice the "established a warlike and expansive culture that seeks vengeance on the humans", very (VERY,VERY) much like the Charrs. Now they are threatened by the Dragons?--74.70.73.106 21:07, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Plural of Charr is charr. Anyway, It's 200 years later, so much can change RandomTime 21:19, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Exactly my point Randomtime. I want them to be a playable race, but don't think it's going to happen because other than Factions they were never really a significant in the GW world. I don't think even the Tengus and the Centaurs will be playable, and they were more significant than the Nagas in GW. And partially because Anet has not mentioned ANYTHING about the Nagas. But as you said, a lot can happen in 250 yrs.--74.70.73.106 23:35, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Well Keep in mind that the dragons arose all over the world and communication with Cantha has been cut off. Also according to the setting information cantha has made drastic changes over its treatment of non-human races under the new emperor so if the tengu are applicable then i wouldn't doubt the naga would also be under the gun...and with that they'd have to move along...also just because the naga only appeared in cantha it doesn't mean that the naga don't swim in other waters. --

Flamethrower[edit source]

[4] It definitely looks like a flamethrower. It was in the trailer at about 4:29. I got it from here[5] (the third to last pic)If you look at the mouth of the "flamethrower" you will see that there are holes. The color showing through the left most hole is the same as the right most, meaning that the same "material" is passing from the right most hole to the left most. Until finally the flames come out. Also notice the way the "Thing"(don't wanna say it's a Charr) is holding the "flamethrower", you only that when some is holding a two hand weapon (pointed down). There are also those tube looking things on the bottom right hand corner, going under the "Flamepack"."It" is also wearing some sort of protective goggles. I am not saying that it's IN GW2, after all it is a concept art. Why do you think?--Darkrampage 20:30, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't think it's bare, I think their fur is just really short and fine, like a lion, or horse.--Darksyde 14:50, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Golem[edit source]

Theres a golem in the trailer (or something that looks a lot like it). It's a different design to the golems in eotn but more short and stumpy. I hope we're not going to have to belive that in 200 years the chaar have invented guns but the Azura (who are already the most advanced race) keep using the same things that didn't really work 200 years ago. Seems like the Azura have got stuck in some kind of time loop. i hope the azura with the glove means we can control golems now, otherwize the azura look like they've stayed still for 200 years, while the chaar have invented the gun--Hugarh 16:14, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

There were several golems in it I think, in various sizes and forms. And the golems were already pretty powerful in GW1...--TalkpageEl_Nazgir 17:28, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
First of all - I don't wanna preach, but they are called Asura... And you might be both meaning this piece of clockwork:
Newgolem.PNG
Bez názvu.PNG

OK, so what they are using golem technology 200 years later. It was a completely new thing in GW1 and it's just like photography on Earth - we are still using it greatly improved. And I doubt cars will vanish in 100 years time. They just improved the whole golem technology. What else would substitute for it? --T-pack 21:06, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

I might also bring up that since their technology is magic-based, the advancements over time aren't likely to be noticed aesthetically. Sure, you look at computers and how they've been getting smaller to us, but these are Genius Operated Living Enchanted Manifestations- they're SUPPOSED to be big, powerful, and intimidating, to be in stark contrast to the Asura as a whole. The advancements are likely in terms of energy consumption, output, stability, durability, without sacrificing the intimidatingly huge and hulking look.--Kajex Firedrake 09:37, September 12, 2009 (UTC)

I agree. I'm hoping that the Asura with the means that we as players can control the Golems. I also agree that although the Golems are smaller it doesn't mean that the technology hasn't improved greatly, as it was said earlier, there were problems with them in EotN. MOX was the only one that didnt have problems. These ones will work properly (i hope). But being able to control them would be good.... Mayb it'll be an elite skill like the Blessings in GW, or like the worms in NF where you use them at specific times in specific environments. Whos knows what Anet will do.

I think they might have different models of golems, that wooden one could be a low lvl, weak golem, while one like the one on the left could be high level or elite golem. Using the car idea, not all cars are alike, and many of them look quite different, from the old junker that is your first car, to the fancy Porsche some people drive. In fact, I can imagine golems that are primarily for speed, some for endurance, some for power. It all depends on what you want as your personal golem. -Shemp

Anet said they would be using a sidekick system like in City of Heroes. Wouldn't it make sense for the GOLEM to be the Asuran sidekick? -Lancer

There is quite some interesting stuff within there like:

  • Image 5: Have we thought that image 4 might be a big worm, what the hell is this kind of beast with sharp tentacles?
  • Image 6: Perhaps part of the lore from the Charr-gone-bad?
  • Image 11: Centaur on the run.
  • Image 12: No idea who the sitting guys are. Perhaps humans? At least they are standing in front of what seems to be the Elderly Woods. (Four giant living wood figures)
  • Image 13: Human running away from long worm is long.
  • Image 17a: What seems to be a male Sylvari? He is standing in front what seems to be a figure covered in wood, moss and bones.
  • Image 17b: The upper part of the figure suggest that it's some kind of, perhaps controlled, monster.
  • Image 20: My personal favorite of the compilation. The details of this machine is just superb and detailed.
  • Image 21: Robot anyone?
  • Image 22: Robot/Metal outpost/city?
  • Image 24: Owl vs. Centaur.
  • Image 25: Armor art~!

It may have just been me, but I feel as if during the trailer we saw some of the PvP maps of GW2. In the movement of the world article, it says something about the asurans rebuilding their capital as they were forced to pretty much abandon the depths of tyria.
