Alright, so the time is neigh for choose a domain name. This site is eating the bandwidth from my personal site with the quickness (Who knew it would get this big?) and it's time to move. Here's what that means to you guys.

  • There may be a downtime of a couple hours when I make the transfer, but, there shouldn't be. The URL will stay as zerolives.org/guildwars/ until the domain name is completely functional. Hosting just for the wiki will be roughly $15/month. I'm hoping donations/tip jar would cover this.
  • We need to choose a domain name. Here are the ones on my mind. Please debate and discuss their merits here. Also, add any that might come to mind! Guildwiki.com, .net, and .org are being held by domain squatters, sadly.
    • gametome.net, or .org
    • gw.gamewikis.org (so we can do subdomains for other games later)
    • gwiki.com (pronounced, ga-wiki)
    • guildwiki.info
    • guildwarswiki.com (a little long for my tastes)
    • Add any you might think of

Gravewit

As talkin' with Gravewit, .info is a bit lame as an extension, but that may just be bitterness over not having .net or .org available to us because of squatters. ;p That in mind, I'd say maybe "gamewiki.info" attach a guildwiki. to the front of that for possible expansion options later. "gametome" is definitely, objectively lame. Nunix

gw.gamewikis.org looks like the best bet - Mister Walrus

Actually I own the guildwiki.org/net domains and a couple of others. I registered them because I saw that the domain choice page hadn't been updated since late May and that guildwiki.com had already been registered by a domain squatter. I didn't want the rest to get lost to the project. Gravewit: ping me at the address in the whois for guildwiki.org and I'll point it to whatever IP you'd like. Also when the time comes I'm happy to contribute dedicated hosting to the project.

Ah, ace stuff Martin :D I would say this problem was pretty much solved then :) If Gravewit provides the hosting then Martin can provide the domain name :) LordBiro/Talk 00:53, 13 Jun 2005 (EST)

What's the status on this, sysops? —Tanaric 22:28, 23 Jun 2005 (EST)

The wheels are in motion, it's coming, I promise. I've had to upgrade the hosting situation a bit and so on. Gravewit 04:30, 24 Jun 2005 (EST)

Ah, ok, as long as we get guildwiki.org now that we have it ;) it's an ace domain!!! /excited <LordBiro>/<Talk> 06:31, 24 Jun 2005 (EST)

How's the money situation? I wouldn't mind if the sysops kept a list of donations and how they're being spent. Not that I don't trust you—I'm merely curious as to how much somehting like this costs, and how community donation–based support works in practice. —Tanaric 20:03, 24 Jun 2005 (EST)

Actually, Tan, we do : ) Guildwiki:Ledger Gravewit 01:49, 25 Jun 2005 (EST)

I is dumb. Dumb as hell. —Tanaric 05:45, 25 Jun 2005 (EST)

You can point the domain to these nameservers: ns.segpub.net and secondary.segpub.net Gravewit 13:49, 5 Jul 2005 (EST)
