Interesting, interesting RandomTime 08:09, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Is there a userbox and a category for that? --◄mendel► 08:24, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Don't think so RandomTime 08:25, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Shouldn't there be? --◄mendel► 08:28, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Don't think so RandomTime 08:34, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Whats the point of this? Why do we need a page on this in GW namespace? Its not a formal group or anything. —JediRogue 08:41, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
See the categories. --◄mendel► 12:54, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
You want to make a page so that if a person looks in cat:helping out, they can learn to watch RC? I still dont think this page is nessecary. And it certainly doesn't go in the glossary which is for GW terms not wiki terms. —JediRogue 22:24, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, we should have a glossary for wiki terms, too.
Watching RC and reverting vandals, catching typos etc. is helping out, wouldn't you say? For people who don't know where to start with helping out, RC patrol isn't the worst choice by far, as it is quite educational and makes you see what others are doing that you could help with. --◄mendel► 22:48, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

merge[]

RC patrol has 27 page text matches (look at GuildWiki:Administrator information, that has 5 mentions of this unexplained abbrevation) and deserves its own article for people who want to look it up or link to it. If the articles were merged, RC patrol would need to become a redirect into a section of "How to Help". I believe the wiki should document itself and its culture so new editors can get up to speed more quickly. --◄mendel► 23:12, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Or they could, like, ask the first-best person to say that what it means. Whenever I talk about RecentChanges with RC, I link, which probably helps such things already, because I think patrol should be quite obvious. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 23:14, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I thought that was, like, the point of having a wiki: not to have to ask people, but to be able to look stuff up? --◄mendel► 23:15, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
About the subject, yes. Whereas subject equals GuildWars --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 23:16, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
So you feel the wiki should not document itself? I thought that is what the GuildWiki namespace is for! But dangit, I'll go delete that monster list of missing monster images again. People can just find them in articlespace or ask someone, I guess. --◄mendel► 23:19, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
There's a difference between things-to-do and terminology. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 23:31, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Instead of bemoaning the shortness of this article, couldn't you just add some notes what to watch out for, and how to react in certain situations? When and how to call for admin action, for example? How to most effectively use RC filtering when someone spams it again with a ton of (legitimate) changes? Tips like that? I know you have the experience, and you do this daily, so you ought to be able to do a much better job of it than I could. --◄mendel► 23:42, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Short answer: No. I can't.
Long(er) answer: No. I can't, and won't. I am horrible at explaining just about anything. Sentences longer than 10 words tend to have confusing word choises. And, I hate writing guides.
Yes, I do this daily. I taught it myself over time. And, of course, looked at other people. What did they do in situation X, and what would I've done if I hadn't seen that yet? Why did he type that out completely (talking about subst unsigned)? Why does he even bother, too..
If someone plans to write it up, anyhow, how about the Editing guide? Those things could/should be brought up there. RC is a part of editing, imo. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 23:52, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
There is no content here that isn't or doesnt belong in GuildWiki:How to help. As far as a redirect would go, in the game (which is what we are documenting) RC always means Restore Condition. The only thing I would consider doing would be to have a redirect from GW:RC to Special:Recentchanges. In general, I think when speaking to nwe users, most of us link to RC when speaking about it because we know that the new users aren't as familiar with our jargon. For GW:AI have some note explaining it or have the "RC partol" link back to Special:Recentchanges. Beyond that, references to RC as recent changes are usually in talk pages and userspace which we are not going to document. —JediRogue 21:36, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
We can't redirect to Special: pages. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 02:09, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, I'll just link RC patrol to Wikipedia:Recent_changes_patrol then if I need to. I hope there aren't going to conflicts if it turns out our RC patrol works differently from theirs. --◄mendel► 05:33, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Looked over it a bit, seems quite the same. Except we don't have 100 templates to tell people "Plix fuck up the Sandbox rather than article X" (in a proper fashion, ofcourse). --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 08:45, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
