GuildWiki talk:Suggestions/Armor Combo Galleries

From GuildWiki
Jump to: navigation, search

That's gonna be 1.000's of images, if not 10.000's. Each armor piece with dozens and dozens of combinations of other armor pieces... --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 16:58, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Firstly, it's armor not armour, w.e use American spelling Second, from Warrior alone, there's 32 armor sets, which adds up to a staggering 33554432 combinations... JUST from Warrior --Gimmethegepgun 17:01, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
O-o lol, maths. 33 million. Wow. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 17:03, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
And if we tried to make a "this combination looks good" gallery, it would be completely non-objective and everyone would disagree, and this wiki is supposed to be about the FACTS, not opinions. And we do rather well at that --Gimmethegepgun 17:05, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh wait, my bad, it would be 33554400 sets, since we already have the 32 that are SUPPOSED to be together --Gimmethegepgun 17:13, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

well we could have just the elite combo armour gallery, that will make the things more simple. why you say you use american spelling, didn't you hear that this thing called world wide web is -world wide ergo --> international? (btw: do americans know how to spell xD?)

He said we use AmE spelling because this 'Wiki always uses AmE spelling. Americans know how to spell, I think (I'm Dutch myself). However, grammar is hard. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 11:32, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
We use American spelling because Guild Wars uses American spelling in-game, and so does ANet. And yes, the English language (or American, they're starting to get a good line between them) has an abysmal grammar structure, since it was formed from High German and French, which have completely different grammar structures --Gimmethegepgun 18:09, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

you are missing the point of this talk page, keep the talks about american-english language and grammar (and the rest of the "look at me im nerd" talks) for some other page, thank you...

I've already pretty well shot down any idea of doing this, since I think 33.5 million pictures for one single profession would be outrageous. Even just elite armor would have 1889568 pictures, minus 18 that we already have, so 1889550 (if you can't count your places, that's nearly 2 million). Oh, and with this number AND the number up above, this is for JUST male or female, not both --Gimmethegepgun 18:43, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Also, space issues: Assuming 40Kb per image (which is very reasonable. Most are 45+):40*188955 = 75582000 Kb. /1024 = 73810,5Mb. /1024 = 72Gb. For one profession, one gender, Elite sets only. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 18:47, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

1. most of the armour images in wiki are 3-10kb 2. you can cut the headgears (many ahve a single headgear for different armour sets, the hide headgear option etc.) to lower the variables. 3. we dont have to make "this combination looks good" gallery, we can open an article: combo galleries with links to every class combo gallery page where the peole will post their combo images, so eventually it will contain the most interesting combinations while the bannal ones will be left out.

Actually, I've randomly selected some images from Warrior armor to conclude the avg of 40kb. Even if they're 4-10 Kb, that's 7.2Gb - 18Gb, which is a LOT. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 15:48, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

the point n°2 and n°3 will drasticly decrease the number of the combinations since will act as a filter that will cut off the most banal/least popular combinations and in the end there will be not more than 10 combinations per class and thats 200 images +/- Armor combinations Gallery

i have done some calculations:

  • consider just the 15 elite armour sets
  • consider just the 4 armour pieces we are interested in (Chest Gauntlets Leggings Boots)
  • both male and female

=

  • War, Ranger, Masmer, Ele, Monk, Necro 14 elite sets (no imperial) = 2002 combinations images (12012 total for all 6 classes)
  • Sin, Ritu 11 elite sets = 660 combinations (1320 total for both classes)
  • Dervish, Para 9 elite sets = 252 combinations (504 total for both classes)

for a total of 13836 combination images x 10k-20k thats 135-270mb add here that there will be a natural selection (since people will not post banal/unpopular/ugly combos and you will cut a great number of the 13k images leaving to 1-2k of combination images

Use existing character images[edit source]

I am planning to put character screenshots (that people use on their userpages) in a category of its own. Once that is done, someone can go classify them and make galleries of these, that should give us a quite nice "fashion gallery" with little work and no extra server space used. --◄mendel► 07:11, 23 September 2008 (UTC) great idea post a link

Can we remove this suggestion?[edit source]

It's very impractical. Silver Sunlight SSunlight.jpg 15:32, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

If we decide to categorize these images, we will have to split it up into different professions. Otherwise it would be too hard to navigate. However, most people use a full armor set. So the original suggestion isn't really being answered by categorizing all the user armor images :P
What we do know is that it would be nearly impossible to create a gallery that shows all of the possible combinations. Maybe we should just change this suggestion to "Armor gallery" or something similar. Silver Sunlight SSunlight.jpg 09:25, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Excellent observation! If the gallery only showcases those users that actually combine different armor sets, the list gets a whole lot shorter. --◄mendel► 12:27, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

I got an idea, what we can do is everyone who is involved in this discussion can submit a few of their favourites from their characters, and everyone can vote on what is the most pimpin/cool/sweet/nifty, and we pick out which ones get more thumbs up than thumbs down. And maybe if we give people cookie cutter outfits, we'll stop seeing douchebags people running around with the awful armour combos that plague low-end PvP, like black Dervish Elonian armor with Stone Gauntlets.--Darksyde 05:09, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Dynamic Interactive Gallery[edit source]

Another solution is to create a Dynamic Interactive Gallery that has a database of the models.
