I do not know if we can actually upload videos (file type?), and whether mediawiki can display uploaded videos, if the guildwiki server can handle the load, or if wikia allows that.
It is possible to link to Youtube videos (and some other video services, list anyone?) from articles, and in fact this is common practice. --◄mendel► 11:51, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- "png, gif, jpg, jpeg, ico, ogg, pdf, xcf, svg, mid, jl, odt, ods, odp, odg, odc, odf, odi, odm." is a direct quote from the Special:Upload page. Most of those I don't even know about (everything od*, jl, ogg, xcf, mid), thus I can't say for certain no movies are allowed by the special:page. However, I can state my personal opinion: Movies in articles feel very out of place, to me. I never really liked the idea of having screenshots in articles, because it makes it feel less formal, and sometimes it looks rather messy. Let alone videos... Besides, they aren't freely editable, unlike text. You cannot just put a different strategy in a movie without making a whole new movie yourself. --- -- (s)talkpage 11:58, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- These are image formats, some sound formats (ogg and mid), .jl (very surprised that this is there, can it be that lisp script extension?), and a lot of extensions used by open office. You could conceivably use an Open Office presentation (works like powerpoint) to show an animation, but I doubt the wiki displays it. So basically the only movies that you can upload here are gif animations. --◄mendel► 15:39, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
