random: sans vs. but[edit source]

Growing up I had never heard "sans" at all, but one of my friends in college used it all the frikkin' time!!! Now I twitch whenever I hear it. *twitch* >_O —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 06:32, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

I use it in daily conversation all the time.--Łô√ë Turkey!îğáturkey 06:40, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

gift?[edit source]

Ow a gift. Man I'm gonna need help with that. I have no idea what I should be giving. Weapons, Materials, what else can I give? Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 07:21, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, I didn't know that a minimum price range had been instilled. In the end it's the thought that counts more than pure monetary value, so for example a stack of Red Iris Flower or a Celestial Sigil from the Hall of Heroes could be a lot more menaingful than some random gold. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 14:19, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Ow I never thought of giving gold, thats for n00bs. I have a few ideas, but every gift would suit a different type of user. For example, give a stack of booze to some1 who likes to party, and the flowers to a girl, or some1 you love. Can't we (randomly) pick names or something? That would make it easier to pick the right gift (for me). Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 21:52, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
A little while before the event takes place (I need to let people sign up), I'll send out emails/contact off wiki and tell you who the person you're giving a gift to is. --Shadowcrest 21:55, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
We will be randomly picking names. That's what makes a gift exchange different from a secret santa (dwayna). Felix Omni Signature.png 21:56, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Ok then its alright. Do you need my email, or can you see it already? Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 16:59, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
If you have an email address set in your preferences, he can just use the "Email this user" link that shows up in the toolbox while viewing your page - Special:Emailuser/Arnout aka The Emperors Angel ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 17:21, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Would a destroyer shield be too much / too little you think?(was just gonna keep the +30 on it).

That would be fine, I think. Felix Omni Signature.png 01:15, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Just a small request, please make sure to notify long enough in advance so some of us can get an appropriate gift. Example I only play on a warrior or ranger so I will need enough time to farm something good. Tenetke 03:03, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
/Agree - I at least am definitely going to have to farm a gift up (lol I'm poor), so I'll need plenty of time. Qing Guang 01:11, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ditto here about the forward notice, gonna start farming today. Gonna be a bit o' work but this sounds like a really fun idea. NGKnight Sig.gif(NG) 9:24 December 5th 2008 (Central Time)

Just a request for clarification: Do you have a minimum worth of item? I've got a couple green weapons I don't ever use and would be willing to give to the pool, but they seem to be low value to the merchants. Would those be acceptable gifts? What about something like Winter's Day Presents? A block of 10? 20? 100? I think I have over 100 of those unopened. Unfortunately I'm a bit hazy on what things are worth. (User: Nylana Greymoon) 08:45, 10 December 2008 (CST)

Merchants give 35 gold per green, but most are worth 5k. Some are worth more, some less, tho. Imho, wintersday Presents are a great gift; noone knows what you're actually giving <3 And you get to unwrap presents. --- Ohaider! -- (contribs) (talk) 14:50, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
I will do my very best to give an appropriate gift worthy of 50(gulp)K. Personally, I would love a Destroyer weapon, I can't seem to be able to get one made for myself...so much gold an materials. I bet a bunch of con sets would be a great gift too! My wiki sig.jpg
Would a Book of Secrets and say 12 Assassin Tomes be worth 50k or an appropriate gift?--Saphyre the Wiccan 02:37, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Don't worry about it being worth 50k :) Mine surely won't be anything near that. This is about fun, not an expensive gift. I would think that just the book of secrets is more than enough. It's actually quite an original gift. Silver Sunlight SSunlight.jpg (T/C) 02:44, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict) No, no... I didn't mean for it to be interpreted like that.
50k is the ceiling, not the expecation. I just don't want someone to get a crystalline or something while everyone else gets less valuable. If you honestly think the gift is a good gift, then it doesn't really matter how much it's worth. --Shadowcrest 02:44, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Book of Secrets wouldn't be a good gift for a person without Nightfall... Felix Omni Signature.png 02:45, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Then give them the gift of Nightfall... You can buy me a few character slots, I wouldn't mind ^^' Silver Sunlight SSunlight.jpg (T/C) 02:48, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Now, if you check whether the person has Nightfall, and then help them beat Abaddon as part of the present (or if they haven't even gotten to Abaddon's Gate, help them get there), then that could possibly be a acceptable present. it wouldn't be Secret Dwayna anymore, so... my suggestion is to find something else. Felix Omni Signature.png 03:01, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I have a bunch of summoning stones. I have 1 of each from the Deep chest and Urgoz Chest, 8 auto, a Jadeite and I think one more. Is that an ok gift?Hellz Mailman 02:42, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

...profession?[edit source]

I wondered what that's about. Anyone care to Enlighten me? --- Ohaider! -- (contribs) (talk) 16:56, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Most likely to guide the choice of gift (i.e. give a Bow to a Ranger guy).Ereanorsign.jpgreanor 17:28, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Ah, ofcourse. --- Ohaider! -- (contribs) (talk) 19:05, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, anybody can use a nice bow (for pulling etc.) - in fact, the only things that are certainly useless are the wrong kind of runes, and they wouldn't be appropriate for a PvP player anyway. Hmm, the difference might be between weapon wielder and caster? I'm not going to anywhere near the ceiling in terms of monetary value. --◄mendel► 02:44, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
I wouldn't want a Fast Casting staff if I don't have a mesmer. Sure, a hero could use it, but I'd rather have a staff my character could use. --Shadowcrest 02:52, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
A perfect gift, I think so, for any Spell Caster would be Kerrsh's Staff. LostShadow 17:26, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Over 9000 60![edit source]

I think we can safely say that this is the most popular thing we've ever done. Felix Omni Signature.png 15:22, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Indubitably. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 17:06, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Unregistered entries[edit source]

Should we delete entries that link to unregistered usernames (not redlinks, but truly unregistered)? There's 6 3 (thanks to Salad) on there right now, and I reverted one a couple days ago. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken.gif 20:32, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah. If they're not registered, there isn't as much accountability. This was sorta agreed upon in IRC. --JonTheMon 21:11, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Over-the-top entries[edit source]

Okay, could we emphasize the 50k max and maybe mention something about being general with wishes? A couple of these redlink ones are pretty out there - a dragon mini? Pleas tell me that is a joke. Also, how is someone expected to give someone an elite armor set? Provide cash(already over 50k) and mats? Finally, the super-specific entries - my understanding of a Secret Santa type affair is that one hints at what one would like, and then the person assigned you goes and buys something in that general category. Asking for an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time is a little tricky for your average Secret Dwayna to obtain in a limited time-frame, but I've seen a couple of those. :P Qing Guang 01:40, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I've already gotten my gift, and whoever I get their getting it, whether they want it or not, besides anyone would want it anyway.--Łô√ë Fear.îğá†ħŕášħ 01:41, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Well if they have unrealistic expectations no one will be disappointed except themselves. I'm sure no one would be immature enough to complain about their received gift. Felix Omni Signature.png 01:45, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
I was just about to create this section. I will try to the best of my abilities to get what they want, but I don't have any money left. So anything they get will be from my storage. Silver Sunlight SSunlight.jpg (T/C) 02:13, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
It's not a proper Secret Dwayna if you're not busy trying to trade your unwanted gift then and there with the other people in the same situation... ;-P --◄mendel► 13:22, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
I found the perfect gift for secret santa, and I did't pay or farm for it, but I guess not every1 can be that luckey. So I really hope all these redlinks are serious, and didn't just join to get a gift, and then leave... Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 14:20, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Signup for giving[edit source]

so, where do we signup for the giving part... coz the taking part was quite obvious...Humble Servitor

ok, ok... i give... found the part where it says: IF you sign up below, get a gift worth giving, etc.. Humble Servitor

Well, that brings in another question: Will Shadowcrest check with people to see what they have to give to choose a recipient? If I get someone that wants warrior junk, I'm so out of luck since I don't have anything... but I have Ranger and Dervish stuff. How will we be matched with people who want to receive what we have to give? (User: Nylana Greymoon) 08:30, 11 December 2008 (CST)

Good Question. If i dont have what is required i'd like a bit of time to farm or buy it so that i dont dissapoint anyone. Maybe i have low self esteem.... Wild... This is Cake Townz! 16:56, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I've heard rumours that you'll be getting a notice by Saturday. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 17:07, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

subheader because I'm special[edit source]

Here's how I'm planning to do it. Entropy herd rite; I am going to send out an email/in-game notice of who your recipient is on Saturday the 13th, which should give you a week to come up with a present for that person, if you don't have it already. Then this is the part I'm not sure of. I hope to collect presents from everyone by the 19th (since the 'get together' for this will probably be the 20th). I don't mean to assume bad faith, but I'm sure at least some of the users here will default on their gift giving, and I don't want to be holding on to presents until April. I want to get presents from anyone able before the 20th so that I can re-order the list so that people who don't give anything don't get anything, and etc. Does that sound ok to everyone? --Shadowcrest 20:11, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. --JonTheMon 20:23, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
the system sounds like it works but the date is kind of annoying for me. Plus what outpost/town will you be in to colect the presentsZero 0
I had hoped the gift exchange would wholly be done at the party, but with the number of entrants and gifts we have signed up now, I can see how this might be a problem. --◄mendel► 07:15, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Sounds reasonable. I'm just going to have to hope I don't get slammed with homework or else pray that I get someone who runs something I have. Also, what timezone are you in and when are your general playtimes, Shadowcrest? I'm probably going to take most of the week to get the gift, so I'll be giving it to you on the 19th, most likely. And I'm only available from about 4-6 and 8-11 PST *sigh*. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Qing Guang (contribs) 16:35, 12 December, 2008 (UTC).

What you give away[edit source]

Isn't it easer to also write what you have to give or something? Because every one wants to get, but do they also want to give? And also for the fact that I’m not the riches dude here and if every one is giving away things with a value of 30K I step out because I feel kind of bad if I get a thing that is worth 30K and I give a shity thing to some other dude -- F4Sig.jpg † The Falling One© 14:47, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

The point of secret dwayna is that people don't know who they get their present from. With that list, people can just check it against the list to find out who they're getting a gift from. And we installed a price ceiling to stop people from spending too much. Just give a gift you think someone will be happy to get. --Shadowcrest 15:30, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
I am not afraid to give away something that costs 5k materially but took some time for me to get. --◄mendel► 16:58, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
ah right now I get the SECRET part :P But Secret Grenth would sound a lot nice xD Giving each other the most shity gift you can find. The real Xmas joy MUHAHAHAHA! But 5K stuff is what I have some were I think so -- F4Sig.jpg † The Falling One© 17:07, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Wait a sec. There is writen: The current idea is 50kish. Doesn't that mean that all the gift are around 50K o_O -- F4Sig.jpg † The Falling One© 09:59, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
"Price ceiling" means gifts should not be worth more than 50k at maximum. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 10:03, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

On vacation[edit source]

I'll be on vacation from today until the end of the year. I'll bug Shadowcrest for my gift when I come back :P Enjoy the party! Thanks for all the effort. Silver Sunlight SSunlight.jpg (T/C) 11:50, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Internet Problems[edit source]

So my internet connection has been sucking HARD for the past few days and i figure its gunna suck HARD for the rest of the week. it actually sucks so hard i can get into town and it lags so hard it disconnects me. almost every time. now it says the gifts are due by friday december 19th, does that mean you can give them on the 19th still, or you have to do it before the 19th? because on the friday i might be able to get onto a good connection at around 6:30-7pm EST time. any suggestions on what i should do? DeathByAnArrow 00:03, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Just to update the question, i've got my main gift but theres somethings i wanna get on friday in particular (considering the wintersday event starts then) so the question stands now as: whens the latest i can give you my gift ( the time in EST is helpful :) )

people still signing up[edit source]

Give the Name?[edit source]

Should we let Shadowcrest tell the person who their secret dwayna was after they get their gift, so they can personally thank them? or is it remaining totally anonymous? DeathByAnArrow 14:56, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

I would really like to know who gave my gift. I would like to thank them even if it is only 1 gold it is a thought. So please do let us know who the person was that gave our gift. As these people went out of their way to find something for us. I hope that the person I gave a gift for likes theirs. There is another reason also. For instance the gift I gave isn't very expensive. But, it was the first green I ever got in eotn. So to me it was special and I would like a chance to tell them that so they might know it at least meant something to me. Spikeicon.pngTenetke MekkoMy Talk Page 17:08, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Secret Santa should remain anonymous, but we can put a "thank you" section on this page so that people can thank their anonymous Santas that way. --◄mendel► 22:25, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Shadowcrest told me in-game that it will remain secret to everyone but himself and that he won't reveal them. Misfate 02:00, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

And that is the only way it should be, if you ask me. Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 09:19, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
