Passive XP acquisition[edit source]

I just tested it, and whether you ARE attacking, using skills or just standing around is not at all relevant. However, the radius which you must be in to receive XP is now very tight. I did not test it thoroughly (as I was just trying to verify the note), but it seems you have to be within Aggro circles of the bad guys for you to get XP. Stepping in late or staying a safe distance meant no XP. But, going in as the fight was starting and reamiing in cating range of the closer bad guys got me XP for everyone that was killed (Those in casting range and those who were not). --Karlos 23:55, 20 November 2006 (CST)

Koala, I just tested it, several times, and do not appreciate you just removing that note. Please post your results. Here are mine:

This caused no XP gain:

Test No XP.jpg

This had XP gain:

Test Yes XP.jpg

In both cases I stood around doing absolutely nothing, however, in the second, I was just outside aggro range (and some of the melee attackers wandered into my aggro circle, but did not attack me and I took no damage and was not a target of spells). If you have different findings as to how far exactly you have to be, please post them here. --Karlos 00:55, 21 November 2006 (CST

Karlos, your first screenshot proves nothing since the XP marker doesn't float for long. If the issue is reproducible for you, could you provide a video instead? Caths 02:12, 21 November 2006 (CST)

← Moved from Talk:Game updates

There seems to be disagreement about the new gaining XP system, I have done some testing Outside the Courthouse in GW Prophecies using a Longbow and Heros. I moved the Heros into battle before me, and Staying outside agro (Always 1.25 - 1.5 Agro Size away) I gained XP from the foes that where killed by me, and by those I did not touch.
Second image you posted comes up not found, so I can't tell what you're trying to prove. The first one though shows you attacking, if you do that you should get XP (hence the "+0 XP" in the pic) even if you are out of the aggro bubble. --Rainith 01:54, 21 November 2006 (CST)
Just tested at flatbow range from uphill in Grenth's footprint (high cliffs), ie. about 1.5 aggro size away, and I gained XP. Sending in the henchies 2 aggro away also gained me XP, not until they became grayed out did I stop to received XP. So if there is an issue about no XP being gained, it's not about aggro range or aggressivity only AFAICT. Caths 02:04, 21 November 2006 (CST)
Your finding goes 180 degrees opposite to what me and Rainith have been finding. Can you please post screenshots? --Karlos 02:18, 21 November 2006 (CST)
gw278.jpg My bad, For some reason I accidently copied it as .jpp instead of .jpg, Allright I will go passive. And the +0xp in the first screenshot is form a foe I did not touch. Koala MeatPie 02:17, 21 November 2006 (CST)
After some More testing i found that to receive XP you must fufill Certain Conditions: Either you are attacking, (From outside or Inside the Agro bubble it does not matter) Or you are within the Agro bubble (Attacking or not). After either two of the conditions have been met, you can be anywhere within radar range and still receive XP.Koala MeatPie 02:31, 21 November 2006 (CST)
No one was ever disputing or testing the case when you are attacking/using skills on enemies/party members. We are talking about passive characters. --Karlos 02:41, 21 November 2006 (CST)
Note that I am barehand with only Passive Skills and that there is no way I could have hit them

Or What how about this? Can not be more Passive then that. Note that the Foes can not get any closer then they are Shown here.
gw297.jpg Koala MeatPie 03:08, 21 November 2006 (CST)

What do those pictures prove exactly? In the first set, the monsters are iside your aggro bubble then it's clear that you were in aggro then ran away, in the second set they are just on the edge. Which is what we are saying is fine. Can you please try and focus on the issue? Issue is: if the foes are say 1.5 aggro circle away from you and you do nothing at all, you get no XP, do you agree with this? --Karlos 03:42, 21 November 2006 (CST)

Re: "Note that I am barehand with only Passive Skills". Actually in the first three screenshots (as a ranger) you have an active and attacking pet who kills things for you. Sorry, these screenshots are not conclusive. -- Alya

I used to do a bit of duo farming with my other half. I'd bond and he'd run off and warrior. This lack of XP gain over a certain distance is nothing new as far as I know. Most of the time I was just out of agro range, frequently doing not a lot, but still getting the XP. There would be times that I trailed and wouldn't get the XP for the kills because I wasn't in range, possibly about .5 to 1 aggro circles away, similar to the distance on the first screenie from Karlos. How is what you are seeing any different from this situation? Are you suggesting that XP gain is more restrictive or sensitive than it was previously - is it possible that it has always been like this and it hasn't been especially noted until now? I guess I'll do my own checks and see if I can contribute any more information. --Aspectacle 04:12, 21 November 2006 (CST)
That maybe the case, and it is the harder case to prove (i.e. how can you prove you used to get/not get XP in a certain way after the game has been changed). I do recall sending my henchies to kill off some Djinn while I was chatting with a friend and getting XP standing right around where the first screen shot took place. However, I have no screenshot of that and no way to reproduce it. --Karlos 04:18, 21 November 2006 (CST)
I tested this, and I had mixed results so far. While farming with wurms, I got XP and drops while being out of aggro circle but in radar range, doing nothing. After I left the wurm I tried the same the normal way and got neither drops nor XP. Something definitely changed, before this update I got XP and drops as long as I was in radar range. Now it is rather odd, most of the time I get no drops and XP, but sometimes I still get them. My Ranger got drops for killing with a Longbow - just out of aggro range. But my Ritualist, who killed a whole bunch of mobs with spirits, I moved back behind them, just out of aggro range, got nothing. - Further testing is required, but one thing is for sure: Something changed, and it does not look like an improvement to me. It is not good when they harm normal players when the likely objective is AFK idlers, powerlevellers/leechers of all kind. --Long 04:24, 21 November 2006 (CST)
Interesting. One note.. Let's keep drops out of this. I feel drops have not changed, I still get drops from the groups killed even if I was 2 aggro circles away. Feel free to make a different thread for drops, however, I think they have not changed. --Karlos 04:27, 21 November 2006 (CST)
I agree drops should be kept out of this. I'm willing to help out with any further testing that needs to be carried out; as an occasional bonder I have a vested interest ;) <LordBiro>/<Talk> 06:47, 21 November 2006 (CST)
To make a bold statement that it was added with this update surely requires the same proof as you are asking me to provide (that it was or in your case, wasn't, the case before)? Your tests simply confirm that this XP range is definitely in effect currently doesn't establish whether it was introduced in this update. ;) The person who made the original update to the page didn't indicate under what circumstances they'd noticed this change to add any evidence to their claim that it was this update which caused it. Others who're noting this now have no particular recollection of receiving XP or not in similar circumstances, which isn't strong evidence either. As others on this page have said there have been instances previously where XP gain hasn't been given prior to this update when you are in radar, but out of aggro. I firmly believe that this is nothing new, but have no evidence but my own assertion to support it because I thought it was simply the way it was and didn't find interest in taking video of not getting XP from kills. :P Anyways, I'm just arguing for arguments sake now. I acknowledge that it is a part of the game (albiet an inconsistent thing) and glad it is becoming common knowledge. --Aspectacle 19:25, 21 November 2006 (CST)
I'm not sure how relevant is this (I hope it is), but from my attempts of leveling up my heroes in the troll cave outside Droknar's I can confirm that all my passive heroes (made them all bonders) were NOT sharing any XP unless they were getting inside my aggro bubble as I was killing the trolls there (which was mostly fatal for them anyway). This had been tested a couple weeks ago, so it's not related to the latest update. I was able to get Koss share the XP for my kills with him outside the aggro bubble ONLY when I made him use a longbow/flatbow to shoot at some of the foes I was killing. Noobus 10:34, 21 November 2006 (CST)

I dont think this is new.....back when I was doing OoP necro for tombs? (the place where the darkenesses are) I died and so did everyone in our group minus the monk on the first level....I had a 15dp for the rest of the time since I was never attacking only doing OoP and such.....only when I got in really close to the action (aggro range) did I get xp....and that was a LONG time ago....(everyone else in the party's dp was gone and mine was stil at 14).....so I think people are just starting to notice things more.

I really have no way of proving something thats already been changed in the game either, but when I used to Powerlevel people at the trolls - The radius to get exp from the fight without having to do anything was always the claimed "just bigger than the aggro bubble" away for my customers - This is why I always asked them to have their aggro bubble touching the pile of trolls just incase. So if the claim in this update is that inorder to gain experience from a fight without doing anything you have to be close the monsters...Thats always been the case for me. If the claim is that the distance has been lowered by about half an aggro bubble (where the enemies have to be inside your aggro bubble) then I can agree with the provided screenshots....But I cannot make out what people are actually claiming has changed by these posts here. - Former Ruling 15:25, 21 November 2006 (CST)
Another thing that needs looking into is just what constitutes as "actively functioning in the fight." We all understand that if you take any part in a fight (by either attacking, or casting spells, etc) then you are rewarded experience even when you are outside the bubble (as seen in MeatPie's shots) but there seems to be some confusion as to how far this really goes and where the line on "helping in the fight" is drawn. A character longbowing the enemies (1.5times aggro bubble) gets experience, A Monk gets expereince if he/she is healing people that are fighting even if he/she isn't in range of the fight. In a forum post linking to this discussion here someone claims that a Monk using Heal Party while a good ways away from the fight will still gain experience for helping, but there are claims like the one above mine that a Necro doing the same thing with Orders does not seem to get experience for helping the fight... I will go now and try to recreate some situations like this. - Former Ruling 15:25, 21 November 2006 (CST)

Ebon Dust Aura[edit source]

Searching for it as I expect this is the update that added it. If anyone knows where it is, please advise. I have searched the Mirror of Lyss and foudn nothing (searched there cause it was the only area with only 3 caps). --Karlos 01:45, 21 November 2006 (CST)

Not in Vehjin Mines. --Karlos 02:28, 21 November 2006 (CST)

Not in the garden of Seborhin. --Karlos 03:42, 21 November 2006 (CST)

Not in the Holdings of Chokhin. --Karlos 06:02, 21 November 2006 (CST)

I dont think its in yet. Anet said when they made Crippling Slash cappable, wouldnt they have said the same thing with Ebon Dust Aura? Also, I was under the impression that it would be a fairly decent sized update(at least larger then this one), and sometime today or tomorrow. --Mwpeck 08:49, 21 November 2006 (CST)

Well, When they added Crippling Slash and proudly proclaimed that they did, they also added two new bosses to provide missing elites (Admiral Kaya and Neoli the Contagious) and did not mention them at all, so yeah, I don't always expect them to say these things. Gaile Gray had mentioned on Guru that it would be added in an update "early this week" so I was hoping this is it. I gave up. :) --Karlos 09:26, 21 November 2006 (CST)
Lol, I admire your determination anyway, Karlos! Can I call you "Special K" from now on? <LordBiro>/<Talk> 10:01, 21 November 2006 (CST)
Note that it is Not My pet in the picture but a hero's pet. Also Re read what i have said before "You have to either agro or attack to obtain xp" And if you agro, you don't have to use any skills. Koala MeatPie 12:41, 21 November 2006 (CST)
What has that got to do with ebon dust aura? — Skuld 12:43, 21 November 2006 (CST)

"has left the guild"[edit source]

This seems to have made a comeback — Skuld 03:02, 21 November 2006 (CST)

It was back before this update must have been something silent or no one picked up on it. --Jamie (Talk Page) 03:04, 21 November 2006 (CST)
I think this returned without updating any files. I looked one day and it just happened to reappear. --SK Warrior-icon-small.png 11:18, 21 November 2006 (CST)

No experience from duplicated creatures?[edit source]

I've been AFK farming LB points for a while and I noticed that wherever I am I do not gain experience from killing a duplicated creature. Even if I'm in the aggro circle of the Spear of Torment, I do not receive experience whenever one dies. Same goes for when I'm outside of the aggro circle. I still get the lightbringer points and since duplicated creatures don't give drops I assume they applied the same logic for experience. Anyone else can confirm this? ~ Expert's Dexterity.jpg Sylv (Talk | Contributions) 15:31, 21 November 2006 (CST)

I still get points from killing dupes but i'm not afking. --Mr crow 17:11, 21 November 2006 (CST)

Jennur's Horde "bug" still not fixed[edit source]

I find it somewhat amusing that they supposedly fixed a problem within Jennur's Horde but have not yet addressed the issue surrounding gaining access to the mission if you've already finished the game. Zeroping 19:05, 21 November 2006 (CST)
