Random Discussion[edit source]

This update is fricking huge. Took me a while to even load up the client with all those files that needed downloading. Then I log in and I need to download another 1,000+ files! Sirocco 17:01, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Anyone else having performance (framerate) issues with this update? I suspect it's something in the new audio code, and how Vista doesn't like EAX, but I'm not sure. More testing is needed. --Phydeaux 17:03, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Ok, more testing, and their new audio stuff is DEFINITELY the problem. I can't log in without my game crashing - unless I turn all my sound off. Then I can log in just fine. --Phydeaux 17:54, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
Update again: This update REALLY doesn't like Vista. Or creative sound cards with EAX not working. Not sure which, yet. --Phydeaux 18:59, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Ugh, hero battles.. — Skuld 17:08, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

I'm fine with performance, and my ping got back to normal values after 3 days of extreme lag spikes. -- 17:08, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Damn this, it keeps giving me err 40, i guess no hope for gaile today... --Geon Arcan 17:09, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

I'm done updating this page. Someone else do it now :P (PS: 60 Mb at 51%. Looks like a 120 meg update or aprox). — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o, 17:10, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

132MB. I watched o.O — User:Kyrasantae kyrasantae 17:25, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Too many great updates and bug fixes to mention and praise them all. Great job, one of the best updates we've seen in a long time! --Gem-icon-sm.png (gem / talk) 17:27, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

My monk took a pretty big hit with this one. GoLE... - Candle.jpg Krowman (talkcontribs) 17:31, 5 April 2007 (CDT) is killing off all the dual class synergy. I think it's intentional. --8765 17:33, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
GoLE for non-Eles is still better than it used to be before it affected two spells, so I'm not too unhappy about that. But for a primary Elementalist, it seems bit silly to save 18 energy...maybe even 20 at very high rank? Because at that level of Energy Storage you've already got so much max energy it wouldn't seem to help much. If they introduce new spells that cost more than 25, or cost 25 with a really short recharge (like Lightning Hammer) then I could see the point. Otherwise though... Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 17:48, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
GolE was better than Offering of Blood, Mantra of Recall, Energy Drain -- all these skills are elites, and yet an unlinked skill is better. See why it had to go? — Skuld 17:54, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
OoB was nerfed from 10% to 20% Health sac, Energy Drain was also nerfed, don't remember how much. Seems like they should have improved these sorry elites instead of nerfing GoLE. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 17:58, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
Again, that's the reason why we call them a.nerf, not a.buff. -.- --8765 18:50, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
Okay, you got me there. -.- I wish ANet would realize that, even if it looks good on paper, balancing skills via nerfs instead of buffs is not good for the psychological health of the players, or PR. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 19:02, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
Not sure if you've seen it, but my Nerf/Buff list is friendly on buffs (still some nerfs, but easily out-weighted). --8765 19:17, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
That list is very short-sighted and all-round laughable. — Skuld 09:30, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Necromancer[edit source]

After this nerf... why? Why would anyone consider the following builds on a Necro primary :MM / BiP. Worst idea ever in my oppion.-- 18:04, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

What other primary would you use for a MM? MMs still get the 10 instead of 8 minion cap... for BiP, I guess it makes sense, but still. (At 13 Blood Magic BiP is +6, 12 it's +5) --Phydeaux 18:09, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
SS anyone? Seriously, the change to soul reaping is nowhere near as bad as you think. I was still able to clear the Heart of Abaddon with my necromancer (+heroes and hench). --Curse You 20:10, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

SS is a bit of a problem, but put Signet of Lost Souls and Glyph of Lesser Energy on your bar and you're sorted. Every other caster needs to bring some sort of e-management on their bar, don't QQ about it too much. — Skuld 09:33, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

SR is energy management. No reason to take that away from us PvE players because some kids spammed a loophole. Spen 14:49, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
Don't talk about things you don't understand. GvG is very frustrating to play when you have to fight 2/3 teams that are abusing soul reaping with hex-spam-infinate-heals builds. When one whole mode of play is messed up, something must be done to it. If the same situation arose (for example, many players found the old thunderhead keep mission too hard, so it was toned down), the same would happen for your mode of play. — Skuld 14:57, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
But you have to admit: It's a shame that A-Net didn't implement a correction that had less effect on PvE play. yes? --JP 15:09, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
They "fix" was bad for everyone, they were supplied by a whole bunch of really got fixes by the various forums and didn't use any of them. Heh, better than nothing though. — Skuld 15:16, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
The answer is in the name. SPIRIT SPAMMER. They could've just taken away the rest of the SR for spirits. This nerf ruined SS farming completely, as I understand it, and it's made it ridiculous to MM for me now. I do understand that there was a problem. There were PLENTY of solutions that would've stopped the spirit spamming in GvG and PvP without affecting PvE it is, Mesmers never got to reach their potential because they would be too powerful in PvP, we lose SR because spirit spamming is too powerful in PvP...the list goes on. I'm not saying that they shouldn't've fixed the situation. That's their job. I just think there were better ways. Which is exactly what you said. As for the comment about something in PvE forcing a change to PvP...I've never seen a situation where that is the case. Usually, the PvE nerfs are for farming, and you can't really farm in PvP. Spen 19:48, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
Ruined MM for you? What do you do, kill all your minions all the time? Five seconds is not a long time to wait. It probably will have taken you almost 5 seconds to read that sentence. I'm still able to effectively use my MM to farm around Shing Jea, in fact it's easier with the reduced cost of Animate Bone Horror and Animate Vampiric Horror. --Curse You 20:00, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
Oh, you're farming around Shing Jea. And that's the only area in the game, so that makes this update ok. Sarcasm aside, I often rely on +10 energy from the death of an opponent to cast Animate Bone FIEND repeatedly. It's still 25, I believe. In areas/missions where minions are pretty much a necessity, there isn't enough energy to keep them going against the ridiculous mobs. Spen 20:08, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
Well, easy solution, use one of the cheaper minions. Animate Bone Fiend is now the only 25 energy minion, I guess because it's ranged and deals a little more damage. Also, Signet of Lost Souls is always there as a very good energy management skill. --Curse You 01:58, 7 April 2007 (CDT)
Not for Prophecies/Factions players it isn't. We have nothing. Well, you know, we had SR, but A-Net doesn't think things through. Spen 02:49, 7 April 2007 (CDT)
There's Offering of Blood/Mantra of Recall, though they require you giving up your elite slot and speccing in an extra stat. Or could use GoLE to save you 15 energy on 2 bone fiends if you don't mind going ele secondary. DKS01 03:27, 7 April 2007 (CDT)
Er, GoLE is an Energy Storage skill now. Need to be an E primary, meaning a whole new character (bye bye titles). Offering of Blood and such, like you said, elite. PLUS A SKILL SLOT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO LOSE. Soul Reaping was a Necromancer's primary attribute, and was it's e-management, and has been this way since the dawn of GW, but now it's wrong? They are forcing me to give up at least one slot and choose a secondary profession based on e-management when we should have one inherently. Spen 03:32, 7 April 2007 (CDT)
Err, with ZERO energy storage it still reduces the cost of your next 2 spells by 10 each. Casting the glyph costs 5 energy, so AS I ALREADY SAID it would save you a net total of 15 energy on 2 bone fiends. So no chief, you DON'T need to be an E primary to use it. You need to be a E primary to make it reduce the cost of spells by MORE than 10, but to make it reduce cost by 10 you simply have to BRING THE SKILL. DKS01 08:52, 7 April 2007 (CDT)
It still provides 2 pips of energy regen.. thats better than most unlinked skills... Change happens, adapt and QQ less -- so much worse could have happened. The GW class system is very good, the secondary profession is often used by other classes for e-management, and now the necro does too. Its trivial, completely trivial, but you don't seem to be able to embrace any sort of change. Go and buy a single-player RPG because GW does not seem to be the game for you. — Skuld 04:32, 7 April 2007 (CDT)
Easy, Skuld... Foo 06:02, 7 April 2007 (CDT)
As for GoLE, my mistake. Didn't realize the base energy reduction was 10. And as for Skuld, yeah, it provides 2 pips of energy regen (which is slightly unrealistic, it's COMPLETELY random, if everything dies at once you get one boost) at the expense of several attribute points. How many necros are every going to use soul reaping anymore? If we're going to have to switch our secondary class for e-management anyway, we might as well drop SR entirely and put all those points in inspiration or whatever. So they killed it. I'll embrace a change, if a change is realistic. They removed SR as any sort of significant e-management, which is why it exists in the first place. Spen 10:40, 7 April 2007 (CDT)

Pet Bug?[edit source]

Since this update I've noticed my pet behaving very strangely. If I allow a mini-pet to wonder round in an explorable area my hearty pet wolf starts running around it. It looks like it's gone mad just running over it none-stop. Backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards. Should this be happening? By the way I'm loving the new pet window :) ! --Zoidberg Face.png Zoidberg 18:13, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Pets are now attracted to miniatures. Joining a Pet/Barrage team with a mini would be funny for starters. ;P --Gem-icon-sm.png (gem / talk) 19:06, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Misnamed Article?[edit source]

Shouldn't this be Game updates/20070405 or am I mistaken? Can an admin fix this or should I do it myself? — RabiesTurtle (contribs) 19:02, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

New Error[edit source]

Has anyone lagged out from a new kind of error? --Malec 19:03, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

There are all sorts of new errors in this build - I'm predicting a rollback or a fix within a day or two, as it's unplayable on some people's comps, and some key features are broken. Chests, to start... --Phydeaux 19:08, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
When I click the Templates menu, GW on my PC crashes to desktop with an option to send a bug report to ANet. Almost same thing on my laptop (and it's not a bad laptop ;)), but it crashes hard, not even showing the desktop and bug report. Only hard reset helps. 05:42, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

8 Man UW/FOW Required?[edit source]

I'm hearing a strange rumor from guildies that UW and FOW now require 8 Party Members to enter? Can anyone confirm or deny this firsthand?Tknorris 19:45, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Likely is false, but there was a bug in the Razah quest before the bug fix update (dont know if it fixed it) where it wouldnt let you into the Heart of abbadon if you had human players in your party. Weird. Means you HAD to Hero/hench it. - Former Ruling 19:49, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
No, I think it was something to do with too many people in the district. Me and a friend were trying to get into the zone in district 1 but it didn't work. We went to district 3 and the problem didn't occur. Sirocco 19:53, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

I can deny this,I went solo to UW some time ago,had no problem getting there.I don't know about FoW but it is likely that you can still go with less than 8 people there.-Leader of Armys 23:22, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Deep Wound[edit source]

Call your health and it will be different than the ammount on your health bar. Dont know which is right but it could get anoying...--NecromancerThelordofblahNecromancer 20:44, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

I noticed that the deep wound (bar change) will affect the harbingers (and the boss harbinger) Jennur's Horde, however this does not appear to actually DO anything - it just shows up on their health bar.(Dubby 13:33, 6 April 2007 (CDT))

Chests[edit source]

I removed the note about not being able to open chests due to no Yes/No buttons. There are Yes AND No buttons. Haku Banish 02:09, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

1) Sign your comments, 2) Don't REMOVE the notes, add to them telling that the bug was fixed. - Former Ruling 23:57, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Non-skill updates[edit source]

Is anyone other than me more excited about the non-skill updates than the buff/nerf sticks? I mean, timers on the effects monitor, greyout for Deep Wound, ability to refresh the template list, key to clear target, MORE STORAGE... come on. Someone else out there has to be going "YES YES YES". :( Kessel 01:36, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Timers on the effects moniters is full of win. -Auron My Talk 01:37, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
I see nothing negative on this update, i'm happy with the nerfs/buffs, maybe Crippling Slash is a bit OP, and GoLE but UP (wich makes monks UP) But im really happy with it :)
I was freaking out when I saw the bit about effects monitor timer. I also love the storage boxes - might be able to clear up a character slot now. Greyout for DW? Win. Was kinda hard to tell if I hit the guy with blind or the other party member got him with DW. And it's awesome enough that it needs a bar color change. Refresh template list and clear called target... I dunno. If clear called target works only for you, that's pretty cool. If it's for everyone, it has potential for abuse... and not being at home I can't test it. Likewise, I haven't had a chance to experiment with transmitting templates in chat or refreshing your templates list, although they sound pretty fun. So, YES YES YES. :P But I really want Crippling Slash. Armond 02:06, 7 April 2007 (CDT)
I'd really like a timer on my echo'd skills. I'd like to know just how long I have before that expires. And I'm sad cause I'm crashing (which has happened like once in a blue moon on this game and I've crashed 3 times in the past few hours) and there are no matzah drops. The very top line of my chat window keeps getting cut off. Not to mention that if you salvage too fast (and its not just me), you get an error but before you can read it you're at the character select and you couldn't get that nice item from the chest you were frantically clearing space to pick up before your enchantments wore off and you got killed... yeah... — JediRogue JediRogueSig.jpg (talk |contribs) 02:10, 8 April 2007 (CDT)
Jedi, try backing up your GW.dat file and then running GW.exe with the -image extension. I had a weird issue after Thursday's update and downloading a fresh clean dat file seems to have fixed it. Make sure to back up your original dat file in case it doesn't fix it, or it makes it worse. --Rainith 02:18, 8 April 2007 (CDT)
Which am I fixing with that? Oh and i just remembered what the other thing I noticed that was gonna say before was. After one of those crashes I restarted my computer and came back to gw and it remembered where I was. It only used to do if it like timed out... — JediRogue JediRogueSig.jpg (talk |contribs) 02:49, 8 April 2007 (CDT)
That was a little Christmas/Holiday present for us: the Reconnect After Disconnect feature. As long as you don't quit GW using Alt-F4 or any other normal way, it'll let you do that. — User:Kyrasantae kyrasantae 03:47, 8 April 2007 (CDT)
Jedi, I don't know if doing that will fix any of your problems, and it is a big file to have to re-download. I do know that with all the updates the GW.dat file will occasionally become corrupted in some small way, and wiping it out and downloading a fresh one will fix it. I had some graphical corruption, only to do with shadows. It wasn't an issue until I went to a busy district and the whole game slowed down to where I was getting a couple frames a minute. After downloading a fresh dat file, I was fine. --Rainith 05:25, 8 April 2007 (CDT)
The salvage-too-quick-disconnect bug really sucks, and is all too easily reproducable. I now throw what I was about to salvage on the ground, pick up item, them salvage (though I usually just leave it on the ground now). I've had that bug since they updated the expert salvage to ask what you want to salvage. Queen Schmuck 10:32, 8 April 2007 (CDT)
I have also seen the salvage-too-quick-disconnect bug I find it most often occurs when you try to salvage again before the game has updated the number of uses available in the kit, can anyone else confirm this suspicion? IF that is the case you can just slow down enough to let the number change. --Heurist 05:28, 9 April 2007 (CDT)
Yes, waiting 1 to 2 seconds between salvages is enough time to keep from kicking you out of the game (which I guess would confirm your suspicion, kit uses left number needs to be updated). Another interesting thing is that I have only seen this bug in explorable/mission areas, and never in an outpost (where it wouldn't matter anyway). To reproduce the bug:
  • go out of a town and collect a few non-magical salvage items
  • once you have 4 or 5, quickly salvage them all one right after the other
  • by the 3rd or 4th one, you will probably be kicked out of the game
  • if you experiance the bug, you will definitely be kicked by the 5th quick succession salvage
I have always been using the expert salvage kit when the bug appears, but this might also affect the normal salvage kit (I haven't tried). Queen Schmuck 14:18, 9 April 2007 (CDT)

Mission icon on Augury Rock[edit source]

There is a mission icon for Augury rock now, but I can't verify when it appears. Cavalier 03:18, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

It wasn't there when I got to Augury Rock last night. Not sure if it matters that it was a Canthan char. My Ascended char has it. — JediRogue JediRogueSig.jpg (talk| contribs) 19:01, 9 April 2007 (CDT)
It was probably due to the fact that your Canthan charactor has not completed the 3 prerequisite Crystal Desert missions to make Augury Rock a mission icon. Once you complete those 3 missions with that charactor, the Augury Rock location should then turn into a mission icon. Queen Schmuck 19:05, 9 April 2007 (CDT)
  • It is the mission for ascending. 03:37, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Ranger Preperation Animation[edit source]

My Ranger doesn't use her special animation for preperations anymore when I'm activating a preperation. Can anybody confirm that? PhoenixJH 06:54, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

I still get the usual preparation animation. --Gem-icon-sm.png (gem / talk) 07:20, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Save Template Chrash[edit source]

Guild Wars chrashes when I click the save button on the template Code Menu, not fixed after the second update, do others have that crash too? -- 08:48, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Change the interface size from small to normal, this should help. I hope ANet fix this soon. 08:55, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

ZB bug?[edit source]

After the update i was trying to use the same zb build which still works quite good but i noticed a bug. sometimes when i use ZB on someone else the animation is like i am doing it on myself. i am not sure when exactly does it happen but it might be because i had weapon spell on me though i am not sure that this is the reason. Apr 5 update[edit source]

moved from Talk:Game_updates#April_05_Update

Wow, it has been a long time since I've seen so many good buffs at once (not just to skills)! On the downside, Soul Reaping took a bad hit...and Avatar of Melandru looks even more lackluster..."Shields Up!" died too. But I'm glad they have improved some Prophecies things. It shows that they won't totally leave old campaigns to rust. Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 17:09, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

Well they aren't all buffs. Unfortunately a few things were nerfed a bit - Zealous Benediction is now far more balanced than it was before. Can't believe I said that. I'm going to cry in a corner about ZB now even though it's not a huge issue. ;) PlacidBlueAlien 17:31, 5 April 2007 (CDT)
Eh...maybe if it was 1...7 that would be nice, +10 energy at rank 18 or such...I was speaking more about things like pet controls and such, though...and, more storage! Those are huge improvements, so I think overall it's a positive update. :) Entropy Sig.jpg (T/C) 17:35, 5 April 2007 (CDT)

I have been running into similar issues. I usually run the game at the highest graphical settings (except FSAA which is set at x2 instead x4) at 1680x1050. I can peak up to 70fps but it usually sustains at around 50fps. After this update, it plummets down to around 10~15fps. I haven't played around much with the options but my guess would be related to the new Sound engine in the game ... perhaps it's eating up more processor power or memory ... or something ... I'll have to fiddle around with the settings some time and see what could be causing it. --KirinRiotCrash 01:12, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
Wow, you have 50 fps and you are moaning about it? Wow, dude, I would like 50 fps too... - Zealous Vow.jpg (Abedeus) 10:06, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

I got the opposite actually. i never had 56 fps and after the update my fps went up. the game runs a lot more smoothly than before that's for sure. Thelord23 10:47, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

I used to run the game at 1280x1024, all settings maxed, 4xAA. I would get between 50 and 60fps, now that's down to 20-30. I had to turn off AA, and I'm still getting around 40fps in most areas. This patch has BUTCHERED my framerate. --Phydeaux 12:09, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Don't complain. I run at 4-5 FPS avg. At that point, even 1 FPS drop is a huge deal. Any FPS drop from this update is mostly likely caused by the new UI (which they seriously need to stop changing something about it every other update). --8765 12:49, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Sound Issues?[edit source]

Occasionly on the first fight after leaving a town, I get bad sound problems, like they all get meshed together and it sounds horrible. It does go away after a bit though, anyone else having this issue? Maybe it's just my sound card. Eric368 01:07, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Same thing, horrible stuttering sound and massive frame rate drop on first fight after a load screen. Frame rate drop is so bad that first fight usually ends before i can do anything. [[User:Yggdrasil|Yggdrasil {{ProfessionIcon|Assassin}}]] 05:13, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Cool, I can't play GvG or HA because I can't hear my guildies... I mean, slideshow instead of voices. - Zealous Vow.jpg (Abedeus) 14:56, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

My R2 hero comes before my protectors titles. it's a matter of rank, not usability. Foo 09:26, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

1 ep quest[edit source]

Was there a new quest added to Kourna? I found one. (Sunward Marches near the Command Post (a bit North of it)) It´s name is Out of Kourna and gives you !1!exp as reward. Couldn´t find this Quest at Guild Wiki

Confirmed. 1xp is a bit odd of a quest reward... The quest NPC is next to where Deathbringer spawns. I found it with my Elonan native character with most of the Kourna quests already completed.—Aranth 11:46, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
Just added the quest to wiki. --Kale Ironfist 11:51, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
Stonemason Tagor is also added to Cliffs of Dohjok after you complete the quest but he doesnt do anything--Raptor 12:42, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

Skill animations[edit source]

They've been messed up again, haven't they - last night in Tombs our MM and Orders were both doing a clapping animation after casting Flesh Golem or OotV. — User:Kyrasantae kyrasantae 14:04, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

"Fixed a Pet Tamer exploit that allowed players to remove pets from other party members' Heroes."[edit source]

This one surprised me. I figured it was an oversite by ANet that they forgot to build anything into the game to let your heroes change pets. But they accidentally did, then decited to get rid of it. I must say, I'm more confused by this than anything --Mooseyfate 17:14, 6 April 2007 (CDT)

If I understand correctly, the bug was that not only could you remove pets form YOUR heroes (which you can still do?), and that you could remove a pet from another player's hero, which probably wouldn't be appreciated. Lord of all tyria 17:16, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
I was hoping (and still hoping) I understood that wrong. Could probably used a better explanation in the updates. --Mooseyfate 17:21, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
It seems perfectly self-explanatory to me. Fixed a Pet Tamer exploit that allowed players to remove pets from other party members' Heroes. --Rainith 18:09, 6 April 2007 (CDT)
