This is awesome. Love the new interface options and the Gunther fix. A-net staff is awesome but 9 Megs? WHAT THE NUGGET?!?!?!?!!?!? Also loving the anti-spam. I'm very tired of it.. Now mayhaps you'll provide a guild recruitment channel? :D --Crimson Remnants - PWN3D! 17:28, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Anyone else just get error 7 when going from euro>america or america>euro?--Diddy Bow 17:30, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
As my dear friend would say, Oh My Pie... It took them long enough to nerf the DoA ;) Good changes all round :D StormlordAlex 17:32, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
OMG! I love this update, by far my favorite in a good long time. The "search" adjustment and the party window changes are not extreme, but it saves me from doing little busywork things. Even the download is quick for me at 300kbps. A lot better than usual. Edit: Bumped myself to where it was meant to be.DavimusK 17:34, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Whilwind attack got a new icon?--Diddy Bow 17:34, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Hmm, since this update my gw client wont start, i just get to 100% on the loading thing and then it becomes non responsive?

Try closing and restarting, it sometimes happens because of my internet connection. Ghost1
Thanks, but i've tried that. Also i've tried restarting my computer but still no luck =(
Try adding "-image" to the game parameters. (Open the properties of the shortcut to GW, and after "X:\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" add -image to make the whole thing ""X:\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image")

Did this mess up explorer titles for tyria?

I doubt it. I assume GWEN will have it's own explorer title. I doubt Anet would intentionally steal your titles away. And please sign your post with 4 ~s. DavimusK 17:47, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Is anybody else here having graphical issues after this update? I seem to have a 'line' coming out from everybody.

I have a line that wasn't there on my login/character select screen, but I don't have a supported graphics card either.Zaboomafoo 23:34, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

New Tyrian Map[]

Am I alone in saying that the "new" map for Tyria looks awful? The colors of some areas have changed significantly, there are graphical issues (a vertical "bar" in D'Alessio Seaboard), not to mention the two black vertical bars on the zoomed out map... Zeroping 18:05, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Bleh I would like to comment on that but my download is crawling at 4k/s --Roland iconRoland of Gilead (talk) 18:09, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
Yuck, they unblurred the unexplored areas, you can basically SEE the path that you go on on the entire continent without exploring it! On a side note, they appear to be running the cliche endgame location: "in hell (or similar) or on a volcano" (note the big island up north, it's a NEW volcano. HURRAH!) --Gimmethegepgun 18:47, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
I outlined a map with what I believe will be the explorable areas at Talk:Guild Wars Eye of the North. And somehow I don't think the islands top left will be the finale, because they lack any features whatsoever. If you have a char that's never been to the Ring of Fire islands, check it on the world map. You can clearly see paths, bridges, structures etc., but none of that on the new fire islands. --Roland iconRoland of Gilead (talk) 19:27, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
A explored EotN map was leaked during E3, and none of the new volcanic island was explored. Though it could still be added obviously. The new areas are the tarnished coast(below the Maguuma Jungle), the farher north shiverpeaks, the grassy area east and west of the new shiverpeak areas, and alittle bit on the southwestern tip of the southern shiverpeaks, in the grassy area. Plus all the underground areas not on the map. I'm pretty sure thats all of it. Sage Of The Wise 20:11, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
I posted a link to that map at Talk:Guild Wars Eye of the North. --Curse You 20:13, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
You know what? I think they should completely scrap the ship and merge everything into a single map (with more then 2 zoom levels). Would make travel a lot faster, since you wouldn't have to go through the big arteries, and made the world feel more... whole and integrated, and not like a stranded island in the middle of nowhere :P — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o, 00:16, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

You're not alone in saying it, but I disagree. I think it looks great, the expanded map leaves a lot to be drooled over and lets the imagination run wild. DavimusK 20:29, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Lion's Arch, 2000 files remaining. This might take a while.~Nahka~ 20:35, 17 July 2007 (CDT)
I like the new map a lot. An updated look for Tyria, and as has been said, all that new land (especially the huge green expanse north of Kryta) is very evocative. I do wish, however, that the old Tyrian map was still viewable as an option, for nostalgia's sake... Arshay Duskbrow 00:17, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

As for the new look of the map, the only part I dislike is when you zoom out and finding black area's to the right and left sides. To me it looks like they have rush paste it from Photoshop(tm). A map in (not amusing) portriat format rather than landscape format. The world is truly flat - we will fall off the edge like lemmings. Lord Nikolai Dante 16:57. 19th July 2007 (CDT)

I've added my screenshot of my 100% explored Tyrian map post-update to the map section of the site. Hopefully that will help someone. The update will make it much harder to get the cartography title. -IGN: Killu Killaya 14:34, 19 July 2007 (CDT)

This is one of the best updates ever, IMO, i don't see any bad points to it at all, and i gotta say i didn't like the whirlwind attack icon originally, hope the new one looks better. I didn't mind expanding it, but it is a very nice little timesaver. I wish it allowed the party leader to switch player positions though, instead of regrouping so the monks can heal easier. DavimusK 20:30, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Less of a reason to pair up with PUGs, if this is actually the beginning of a kick function. Character A gets a drop worth ~100k, and is then kicked so the leader/rest of the team can try to snatch it? Not something I'd look forward to. At least I don't play with PUGs if I can help it at all. --Goteki-45 Goteki-45 09:50, 18 July 2007 (CDT)
Yes that would definitely be a concern. I bet there is a work around though. That window that pops up at the end of a mission with the drops you didn't pick up... can easily do that with the kicked person's items. Bloody 56k! I got a download speed of 3 kb/s, and if you calcuate that into the amount of time it takes to download 569.1 mb, you will see that most if not all dialup users will not be playing Guild Wars for a little while. Damn you cheap DSL companies! People who live in the boonies have feelings too! ---Legacy Of God

Ekhem. That size is only accurate when "-imaging". Without that the download is smaller, but it'll take a while when moving from place to place. When you buy EotN, you can run a game update from the provided DVD. — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o, 01:21, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

empty foreign language districts[]

I just reverted a note by User:Poki about empty districts with a different language than your setting being inaccessible (not listed in the dropdown list). It has always been that way for me. Please elighten me if I missed some finer point. 134.130.4.46 06:18, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

There was always at least 1 Spanish, German, french etc.. district, even if it was empty. Not if it's empty it's not there. It's created upon map travel or login. If you want to revert anything, then go for the "Polish and Russian districts where added". I can't find any of those. — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o, 08:00, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

English --> Common[]

O..K.. brains12 (talk) 09:44, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

I guess they did this as there are still no districts for some countries that don't speak any of the current district languages. Polish and Russian districts are new in this update, before then they didn't exist. I'm English but happen to be in a Serbian guild. They all speak English but even so there is no Serbian district --SK Assassin-icon-small 09:52, 18 July 2007 (CDT)
Well I'm from Slovenia and there are lots of players in Slovenia too, but no Slovenian district either ... I guess some cuntries will never get their own districts ... weby 13:17, 18 July 2007 (CDT)
They will probably come, eventually. Ghost1
I wouldn't bet on it. They may add some more, but they can't possibly add districts for every language there is. I would say they renamed "english" to "common" for that very reasin (i.e. it is not a district for people from Great Britain, but for everyone who doesn't have an own district). --84-175 (talk) 15:37, 18 July 2007 (CDT)
I think its just silly that they did this, come on, common district? The name just has to refer to the language spoken in that district, not the nationality of the players in it... Frantic

(reset indent)

Admittedly, am a tad urked by the change, but probably like 84-175 says, Anet done it to be more inclusive of those player's who will not be getting districts for their specific countries primary language. Might have preferred "Default" instead of "Common", but oh well. --Wolfie Wolfie sig (talk|contribs) 03:05, 19 July 2007 (CDT)
It wouldve been better if they added a Common district instead of changing English to Common. That way, the Enlgish district would actually be made up of English speakers brains12 (talk) 09:44, 19 July 2007 (CDT)

update size note[]

What's with the number, 569 mb? I've seen claims of update size of up to 1.1 gig, whereas mine was maybe 35 or 40 mb total, including all downloads on area changes shortly after the startup download (which was only 9 mb). Since the download size varied that much, does anybody disagree with deleting that note? --Roland iconRoland of Gilead (talk) 12:07, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

Use -image on the cmd line. It looks like around 24,000 files to me, whatever that'll come out to (downloading as we speak). --8765 12:17, 18 July 2007 (CDT)
569 MB / ~25,000 files is correct. Those are the numbers you will get if you did an image (like described by 8765) before the update and another image now, meaning it is the exact total size of this update. If you didn't do an image before, and do one now, you may have to download a lot more and if you just start the client regularly, you will download a lot less. --84-175 (talk) 15:34, 18 July 2007 (CDT)
I walked away before seeing the final size, but it looks like my gw.dat file got bigger by about 500MB. Of course, there is some compression, and it's an estimate. It's total size is 3.61GB. --8765 20:04, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

fast casting note[]

Is the note about it not affecting signets true? Source? The attribute still mentions it reduces the time but i dont have a stop watch so i cant compare exactly. -- Xeon 12:18, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

I have just tested both Vampirism and Fast casting, and its true. Testing Vampirism is a no-brainer, and FC is just as easy. Assign no attribute points to your mesmer, take a quick-recharging signet with 2 seconds or more of activation time. Activate it once, then raise FC to 12 and activate again. No difference. --Roland iconRoland of Gilead (talk) 12:21, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

bugs[]

Was ANet's bug-per-feature ratio ever higher than with this update? --Roland iconRoland of Gilead (talk) 12:25, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

Discounting massive updates, nope, they got really sloppy this time, they did two or so updates ago too, i hope this doesn't become common. Im quite sure it is because they uploaded GW:EN content, although they have been leaking GW:EN to the gw.dat file for a very long time now, i have a nearly full list of all the skills in gwen which i collected from about 2 months ago now. The update system seems to be very crappy when moving across content from the test server to the live server. -- Xeon 12:30, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

party search[]

While I do like party search and find it useful at times, it's SEVERELY limited in what you can put in the description. Add that its automatic when you put wts/wtb, it truncates most of the text! People are already W T B, etc, which defeats he whole purpose. Fixing party search cannot be done by making it automatic, it needs to have room to put useful text! Allies and pets in Party panel while in a mission[]

Can anyone confirm or deny whether minions show up in the Party Panel? I would test it myself, but my darn wireless keeps DCing me. --BarGamer 22:32, 18 July 2007 (CDT)

Minions do not, had 2 mms (me and another) in Tahnnakai earlier, didn't show up --Gimmethegepgun 22:34, 18 July 2007 (CDT)
Shame really. That would make MMs' and especially minion bombers' work so much easier. Add the possibility to turn the minion list in the party panel off and everyone could be happy. --Roland iconRoland of Gilead (talk) 03:15, 19 July 2007 (CDT)
Would also make it a LOT easier for the mm to tell what minions it has up and what it needs to make (more melee plox!) --Gimmethegepgun 10:40, 19 July 2007 (CDT)
I'm not sure I like the idea of minions being added. I've been on a mission once where there was 3 mms (2 players, one hero) and we had 30 minions running around! It was so bad that one cast of Blood of the Master cut my health by half! I can't imagine how bloated the party panel would be with 8 players and 30 minions would look! If anything, minions should be give a separate panel (like the one for pets, except looking more like the party panel) so the mm can drag it somewhere else on the screen. It would also only show just that mm's minions, not the other allies' minions.----WarriorSavageX 23:24, 19 July 2007 (CDT)
Um, it's collapsible, yo. Just like in your Attributes Tab. So if you didn't want to look at minions, you wouldn't have to. As for having 3 MMs and you using BotM, that's not the Party Panel's fault, it's your own. Furthermore, if we have to have a completely separate panel for our minions, there's lots better ways to implement it. Oh, say, like making the damn Minion Cap Icon (or whatever it's being called these days) being useful for something besides "Ctrl+Click = spam." No other interactions for the Icon, just Ctrl. It's so useless. How about Click = Cycle Minion Selection? How about the Animate X skill on your Bar showing you how many of that minion you had? How about having Minions obey Flags?? But it'll never happen. PVP runs the game too much. --BarGamer 00:41, 20 July 2007 (CDT)
