Maybe he IS Torin the bandit.. --Karlos 21:00, 11 Oct 2005 (EST)

Maybe. Maybe aliens cloned him. Maybe it's his brother. Maybe pigs can fly ...
Seriously, we have NO indication whatsoever that Gate Guard Torin deserted and became a bandit. --Tetris L 22:02, 11 Oct 2005 (EST)
Not strictly true. There is one indication - they share the same name. 22:21, 11 Oct 2005 (EST)
Exactly! Because they bear the same name, and because we can't find Gate Guard Torin anywhere after the searing and because they both wield a sword and the EXACT same shield. Maybe, just maybe, we should not assure the readers that they are not the same person. I am not saying we say they are, I am saying we don't say they aren't. --Karlos 23:13, 11 Oct 2005 (EST)
Unless you lunatics have unearthed any additional information about this guy that says he ISN'T the bandit, I agree with the motion that the disclaimer be changed to say that we don't know. --Rain Over Pebbles 03:58, 30 March 2006 (CST)
Something should probably be added to the Torin article as well. --Rain Over Pebbles 03:59, 30 March 2006 (CST)
In my oppinion, you'd have to be blind to not see that they are the same person. Both warriors, same sword and shield, same name, one is absent when the other is present and it's the searing, and from the quests of people who abbandoned and left, I think it is very likely that these are the same people. I mean think about it, quests like Frontier Gate Fugitives and The Red-Cloaked Deserter only support this more.
Honestly, I think things like this are small easter-eggs put in by A-Net, and whether Gate Guard Torin and Torin the Bandit are the same person or not is left up to the player. However, in the official wiki, since there's no confirmation one way or the other, I think the best solution is to say that it's possible they were intended to be the same. Similar debate to Lina the Healer and Lina, Protector Henchman. (Personally, I believe that both Torin and Lina are intended to be the same person in both pre- and post-Searing, and ANet seems to like pre-Searing characters playing roles in Post-Searing).
Just done the quest that involves killing the Renegade Torin. When I slayed him I thought like, that name reminds me of something. And then I had it: should this be the Pre-Searing Gate Guard Torin?
