Ettin?[edit source]

Should these still be classified as Ettins even though they occasionally drop Jotun Pelt regardless of their name?--Franc 03:25, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think so. I think GW-mechanics always rule over appearances. If they really do drop Jotun Pelt, I'd say they're Jotun.--Marcopolo47 signature new.jpg (Talk) (Contr.) 03:27, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
It should also be taken into account that these are boss-like foes, which are known to have different properties than other members of the same species. Is there an "ettin-slaying" mod floating around out there? --Powersurge360 03:31, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
EDIT: Should not be changed until tested with an "ogre-slaying" mod imo. --Powersurge360 03:32, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Do Jotuns count as Ogres though?Entrea SumataeEntrea Sumatae [Talk] 03:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Doubt it, Jotuns can't be knocked down, ogres can be. Most ogres carry balanced stance though, so usually the point is moot. --Powersurge360 03:37, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
I have a screenshot to verify that they drop Jotun Pelt (Or at least I think I do. I'll have to dig through my screens folder). Personally, I'd test the ogre-slaying mod myself but I've never found such a mod so I can't really test it. (forgot to sign) --Franc 03:42, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Could always try an Ogre-Slaying Knife :P --Gimmethegepgun 04:13, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Don't have one of those either, and apparently neither does anyone in my Guild. Boo. Guess I'll just hold out on finishing the quest until I can get my hands on one or until someone else tests it. --Franc 04:26, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

All the Ettin bosses and boss-like foes in the area drop Jotun Pelts as well, I've gotten a fair few in my recent romps. Ogre-Slaying testing is viable for any one to prove the pack imo. --Powersurge360 22:36, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

There's actually no way to test this properly. I ended up testing to see if the Inscribed Ettin got a damage bonus from an ogreslaying mod or not, but I tested the Jotuns outside Sifhalla and the Ettins outside Beetletun just to be safe. Surprisingly, both monsters got bonus damage from the ogreslaying mod. (Gypsie Ettin: 24 without mod, 28 with | Jotun Skullsmasher: 13 without mod, 15 with) The two swords I used were exactly the same except for one having a 17% of Ogreslaying mod. Since it does drop a jotun pelt, I guess it's safe to say it's really jotun. I'll be adding Jotuns to the ogre category shortly. Franc 21:52, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
