I have never edited on Guildwiki before, but I just found a Forgotten Guardian on the southern edge of the arid sea. There is a glowing portal behind him. When you speak to him he says 'This portal leads to the Desolation, a deadly wasteland shrouded in poisonous sulfur mists. You do not have the means to survive in such a place so I cannot grant you passage.'

Since the Crystal Desert along with The Desolation used to be a sea, perhaps this area is a part of something like the Mid-Atlantic Ridge - an effect of volcanic activity and a connection between two tectonic plates of Elona and Tyria, possibly going further through the ocean and the Ring of Fire Islands - Lavvaran 08:42, 30 December 2006 (CST)
Crazy haze. Jesus, that stuff scared the crap out of me the first time I went to the desolation. It was with my survivor, and BOOM everyone just died. Wow, I almost fainted. Then checked death count, and thankfully it didn't count against me. Whew.
