What goes in the second field? --130.58 05:46, 24 March 2006 (CST)

I think it takes date/time in the second field. --161.88.255.140 05:51, 24 March 2006 (CST)

This wiki's time zone is horribly inconsistant, if you look over the Main Page's archieved talk pages you can see that we originally used EST then we used UTC for a bit then CST and now we're using CDT. Awful! When you use ~~~~ GuildWiki defaults to whatever time the server is set to (which has changed 4 times...). If you've changed the time zone offset in your preferences then the times on talk pages will be different from what you see in a page's history. If you couldn't be bothered converting your own time offset to the server's time then you shouldn't put the date/time in at all because it will only be accurate to + or - 24 hours (depending on your offset and nobody but you knows your offset). If you do convert the time to server time then you should put (CDT) at the end of the second field to indicate the time is correct CDT time. Ie either use {{unsigned|Xasxas256|04:04, 27 May 2006 (CDT)}} or {{unsigned|Xasxas256}} and NOT {{unsigned|Xasxas256|04:04, 27 May 2006}} The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xasxas256 (talk • contribs) 04:05, 27 May 2006 (CDT).

Well it makes sense that we would use both CST and CDT, roughly 6 months of each. Although I guess that is changing now as Daylight Savings Time is supposed to last longer now. --Rainith 04:11, 27 May 2006 (CDT)
I wonder if it's worthwhile having the second field at all, I just flicked through 30 uses of it, the results were: 3 didn't have the second field, 3 used a timezone (I didn't bother checking if it was correct) and the other 24 used it with a date but no timezone. Is it worth having a date bit? The vast majority don't use it correctly. Besides, in a talk page it's usually at least obvious what order a comment was written and you can look it up in the history if you're desperate to know anyway. For those that know how to work out the server's time they can add the date, it's no less work to do it when it's included in the template anyway and saves a whole bunch of meaningless timestamps being added. --Xasxas256 04:25, 27 May 2006 (CDT)
As per the link in the unsigned template, you should use {{subst:unsigned|Username or IP|date}} instead of {{unsigned|username or IP|date}} --Draygo Korvan 11:15, 5 June 2006 (CDT)

Link to user page removed?[edit source]

Just curious, why was the link to the user page removed from the template? Granted, anons may not have one, but the unsigned template isn't used exclusively on anons. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 11:23, 20 July 2006 (CDT)
