- 1) It's a Spam pyramid. It should go down too...
- 2)Can't bureaucrats un-bureaucrat themselves?--El_Nazgir 15:59, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
- Not necessarily. As it turns out, giving a user rights group permission to remove others from a given group is a separate configuration setting from giving them permission to remove themselves. A quick look through the source code shows the default setting is that no user may remove themselves from any group, apparently. Nwash 17:32, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, that explains.--El_Nazgir 17:36, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
- ITS AN OMEN!!!11!1
- On the other hand, it looks like if bureaucrats can access Special:UserRights, that bypasses all other settings in that area. By default, bureaucrats can access it, but GuildWiki isn't running by the defaults. (No userrights right for bureaucrats, just certain add/remove group rights.) Nwash 18:06, December 5, 2009 (UTC)

- ITS AN OMEN! Arnout aka The Emperors Angel 09:46, December 7, 2009 (UTC)
- Unlike the mainstream Pastafarian belief, I believe that rather than the depiction of His Noodly Goodness is incorrect. It is always shown as him having several large meatballs, but I am of the belief that his Meaty Goodness is actually in the form of meat sauce. It's often disputed whenever it is mentioned, though only in the minds of the disputers, no one gets angry about it or whatnot thanks to the second of the Eight "I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts" that we all agree on. I mean, seriously, meat sauce is SO much better than meatballs, especially since you never run out of one or the other the way you always do with meatballs. The meatballs run out or the tomato sauce around them does, never both at the same time. With meat sauce, it's inseparable, as His Noodly Goodness intended. Such a concentrated level of meat as a meatball would utterly defile the Noodly Goodness to such an extent as to be blasphemous as far as I am concerned, but then again, the Second. May you all be good so the strippers don't have STDs and the beer volcano isn't stale, RAmen --Gimmethegepgun 10:43, December 7, 2009 (UTC)

- Alt+Shift+E - shortcut to edit a page. There's a lot of Alt+Shift+* shortcuts, actually: C goes to article, T goes to talkpage, E for edit, + for new-section edit, H for history, P to preview edits, S to save edits, M for move... And my version of the GWW tab adds G as its shortcut key. —Dr Ishmael 18:09, December 7, 2009 (UTC)
- Downside to alt-shift-e is that you edit the page en whole, rather than by header :P You either omit the header thingy in your summary, or have to add it manually. Also, most importantly, a-s-r for RC :D --- -- (contribs) (talk) 18:25, December 7, 2009 (UTC)

- Grz. Seems complicated, but a lot of sci-fi and fantasy novel summaries do. From my experience, it usually works out fine in the novel, where you get to learn all the terms and names used in the summary much better. --El_Nazgir 19:43, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed. Summarizing a large story when you're writing in world-building sci-fi is not particularly easy. Can't depend on anyone knowing anything about it, and then you're asked to describe the world and plot in 1024 characters. Anyway, I've also set up a [blog], and I'll be adding a page today to introduce some of the authors I like. Might give everyone a better idea of the type of novels I'm writing. - Yeah, Avatar was a great movie, but for awards, it got pwnt by The Hurt Locker.--El_Nazgir 12:43, March 17, 2010 (UTC)
- Well, it would deserve awards for visuals. That impressed me, along with the attention to detail in the world building, which is really what won me, but I'm not sure there are any awards that would directly apply to that. I would not argue that it deserves anything for acting or for the central plot, though. If anything, it's just proof you can make something that works as a movie and which probably couldn't work in any other medium. Nwash 13:12, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

The problem with avatar, which only bothered me after watching it, was when I realised it was just a list of tropes strung together on the pocahontas story. Bad practice?[]
To my knowledge, redirecting images is still fine. In fact, imo, it's preferrable since it's easier to go to the images page (Redirected From: message). --- -- (contribs) (talk) 15:31, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
- I've just generally read that links, wherever possible, should be direct. Maybe this does qualify as a good exception; this would just be the first time I've seen anyone say so. (And there have been cases where I've found myself annoyed to be redirected when I was trying to get to an image page, so it seems it's a choice of one annoyance or the other.) Nwash 15:43, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, and if redirect is the preferable way to handle this, please don't just revert, as setting up the redirect is not easier than using the link parameter. (It does require one more step.) :p Nwash 15:46, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
- The link= parameter only makes it worse. . Try getting to the image page on the first. You'll have to type out the whole link yourself. The redirect leaves a backtrace which automatically adds &redirect=no so you don't get sent to the Fireball page (or Light of Dwayna, for that matter). --- -- (contribs) (talk) 16:13, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I still find it jarring, especially for the skill icons which are usually paired with a text link, but as signature images are not, this is logical for this case. Phrasing edited on GuildWiki:Sign your comments to keep people like me from thinking that's only there for historical reasons. Nwash 16:28, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

Thank you[]
I was going to thank you for this edit with a well-thought-out reply; and every night I set out to it, I get distracted, and when I do get around to it I feel so tired and unconcentrated that I fear I can't do it justice. Then I sleep on it, and by the next night, what I want to say has grown larger. They way you have spoken to me has proved a key to open my mind to learning and understanding what others have been trying to tell me as well, and it's become a chain of learning for me that I needed. It doesn't mean I agree with you or anyone else, but I understand better now.
Because the well-thought-out-reply might still be some time in coming, I decided to take the easy way out for now and just say thank you. Thank you. --◄mendel► 15:31, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome. My decision to write that was very spontaneous, so I'm a little surprised at how helpful it already appears to be. But more importantly, I'm grateful that a gap in understanding has been bridged and hopeful it will lead to fewer misunderstandings in the future. As always, it's time that will tell. Re: User_talk:Dr_ishmael#Wall_of_Text[]
Your response leads me to feel I should clarify a couple points about our own interactions:
- I took no insult from the correction at all on Template:TitleBars, and my comment on Ish's talk was never meant to refer to that at any level. I suffered momentary frustration from that only because I had considered that exact fix shortly after my own edit, but decided to move on to other things because I had thought I had verified the template was working as intended on both those pages. It was because I had been so close and stopped short for a silly reason.
- The comment in question wasn't intended in any way to refer to your criticism of my novel, nor should you feel much responsibility. At the time, I was also discovering how many misconceptions I had about self-publishing going into the process. In particular, I later learned that traditional publishers tend to prefer to have a sense of ownership, so to speak, and are often more hesitant to pick up a previously self-published title. I had a lot of reasons to reconsider the direction I was taking, and after reading your wall of text, I feel I should clarify that it was no more than another straw on the camel's back.
I can say that I agree in general with your points in your wall of text, and you make a particularly good one about the need for timeliness. I won't pretend not to be slightly disappointed, though, as the weight of the points still seems inadequate to suggest an unchanged approach is best. Still, just achieving a greater understanding is often very helpful on its own, and I don't feel splitting hairs on subtle points is either necessary or desirable. After all, I still find myself feeling optimistic about the situation from an overall point of view. Nwash 12:32, 17 March 2011
- I know you took no insult, that's why I chose that as an example. ;-P
- Thank you for your kind words. --◄mendel► 22:31, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
