xasxas forgotted his category[edit source]

Hi there, it's good to see you throwing yourself into GuildWiki editing but you need to take a look at some of the GuildWiki:Style and formatting, in particular GuildWiki:Style and formatting/Quests. You change two links in Track Down Lo Sha, from XP and Gold to two piped links XP and Gold (ie XP and Gold). You see that from the style guide they were originally correct. Strange because I noticed you created GuildWiki:Style and formatting/Guild Halls so I guess you just forgot to check the style guide for quests first... If you want some more hints on the particularities on editing the GuildWiki, have a look at my user page. Thanks. --Xasxas256 18:07, 9 July 2006 (CDT)

sorry about that - I had no clue what i was doing - I just assumed that the links to redirects are bad hey do you geeks have some guide-page with links to all these styles and formats and emplates? lol ST47 18:23, 9 July 2006 (CDT)

Hmmm looking over a few more of your edits, I've noticed you've changed gold to gold in a number of places, if they're talking about gold it should be a link to gold, piped links don't need to be used very often, if you're talking about money, the link will normally be money not gold (also note that you don't need the capital letter). Actually a lot of your piped links are "incorrect" changes. E.g.:

:*Hero Window to Hero Window: the in game term is Hero Window

 • Hero Window to Hero Panel: the in game term is Hero Window
 • level to level: too wordy, an unnecessary piping, if people see the word Character level wikified it should 99% of the time go to a page called Character level. Also the capitalisation is wrong.
 • mobs to mobs: nobody says mobile objects, if the reader is unsure of the term they can clink on the link, that's the whole point of wikifying it and
 • Global Tournament to Global Tournament: Global Tournament is the correct term
As a final point, if you have want to wikify collectors, use collectors not collector.
I'm just trying to save us some work, it's always good to have enthusiastic editors but it'll annoy both of us if I have to keep reverting your edits ;) That long list might seem like I'm ripping into you but I'm not, I'm trying to make it as clear as possible to you why I think some of your edits have been made in error, there's no point in me saying "you stuffed up" and giving no reason, it's important to say why as you seem keen and I don't want to discourage you. :)
If you're about to go on a crusade (e.g. creating a huge number of piped links) you should check that you're doing the right thing and it's what people want. There's over 400 quest articles that say gold and not gold (IE gold vs gold), if you start to add piped links you have to be consistent across all articles. Over time we've agreed on how we want things to look, I know it's hard if you've just come on board recently but have a look at the relevent GuildWiki:Style and formatting guide and look at other similar articles. If you've got any questions, sing out, we're always happy to help and have a look at my user page, I think it's a really good place to start (but hey I'm biased) ;) --Xasxas256 18:31, 9 July 2006 (CDT)

my we are fast today...hmm - the collectors - i wanted to have that 's' marked to - it looked bad - piped - is piped = a link to a redir or is piped = a link to a crazy named article with the | thing caps - I used the same caps as was in the target article - is it better to move the target article so the capitalization is correct? and the hero window vs whatever it was - why is there an article named hero panel?ST47 18:36, 9 July 2006 (CDT)

The Hero Panel/Window thing was a typo on my part, I've struckout the incorrect example. Yep piped is when you have a | in the link (aka a pipe ;). You don't need to use the same case as the first letter of the article, due to a restriction with the MediaWiki software we use, all articles start with a capital but you don't need to write links that start with a capital. Hope that helps. --Xasxas256 19:07, 9 July 2006 (CDT)
I think I probably paniced a little when I saw Gold, by no means were all of your link edits wrong ;) In fact for example the mobs to mobs edit was perfectly fine, you just changed the link from a redirect page to the actual page. --Xasxas256 19:25, 9 July 2006 (CDT)

"xasxas forgotted his category", it's forgot not forgotted and they're called sections not categories! So we all make mistakes but I only made one :P --Xasxas256 23:37, 16 July 2006 (CDT)

while you're here[edit source]

those anon comments without the ~~~~ - some of them get a note after them in smaller text - is there a way to manually do that or no? edit - speaking of which - I forgot the ~~~~ ST47 19:11, 9 July 2006 (CDT)

You mean the unsigned template? You use that like this: Xasxas256. Be careful using it though, your local time may differ from the server time, I wrote a thing on that recently here: User talk:Rapta. --Xasxas256 19:19, 9 July 2006 (CDT)

Minor edits[edit source]

Could you mark your edits minor please, even if you do not consider them minor. it is very helpful for registered users to make their edits as minor because anon users can not do minor edits. This way we can see what edits they make.

To make your like easier you can set all your edits to be marked minor by default in your preferences. --Jamie (Talk Page) 08:30, 10 July 2006 (CDT)

Sure ST47 08:31, 10 July 2006 (CDT)

Julen the Devout image[edit source]

It's preferable to keep the name in the image box for relative ease. With the correct name already in the bestiary box, all a user has to do is upload the image with that correct name and not have to change anything in the article. That is unless the pixel size needs to be changed. Just a little tip. -Gares 08:33, 10 July 2006 (CDT)

I wasn't sure how the image name should be formatted, and it was incorrect(image: ) beforehand so I blanked it ST47 08:36, 10 July 2006 (CDT)
In most (if not all cases) just put in for character pages. --Jamie (Talk Page) 08:50, 10 July 2006 (CDT)
plz — Skuld Monk 09:13, 10 July 2006 (CDT)
use that instead? huh? ST47 09:15, 10 July 2006 (CDT)
I'd like to know the reason why one way is better than the other? There is no efficiency difference with regards to using PAGENAME, , or just manually typing the page name. My advice, do whatever you find easier as there are always going to be a difference of opinion on certain things. -Gares 10:12, 10 July 2006 (CDT)
In most cases the PAGENAMEs were just c+p jobs, no? — Skuld Monk 10:16, 10 July 2006 (CDT)
Actually, it doesn't matter which one you use. PAGENAME isn't a template, it's a variable defined by MediaWiki itself so looking at it performance-wize, there isn't any difference. The parser runs through the code no matter if we use subst or not. — Galil Ranger 16:48, 14 July 2006 (CDT)

Bans[edit source]

Another tip, if you feel a ban request is needed, please place in on the user's userpage, not the usertalk page. I fixed it. thanks. -Gares 09:10, 10 July 2006 (CDT)

ok thanks - it seems the request was deleted anyway ST47 09:12, 10 July 2006 (CDT)

progress bar[edit source]

I know I saw someone's user page that had little green and red boxes - I could use those for my title page if anyone knows where they are?

I do believe you are talking about User:Dashface's excellent progress bars. --Jamie (Talk Page) 08:46, 14 July 2006 (CDT)
yes thank you ST47 08:50, 14 July 2006 (CDT)

Skill trainers[edit source]

No, we put every skill trainer it's available at before it's unlocked. That said, every Prophecies skill is likely already correct (and Prophecies locations for core skills). -- 17:54, 16 July 2006 (CDT)

i think we place the first trainer for factions, since they are cumulative, and every trainer in prophecies, since each has a unique set. obviously, we only record the trainers that have the skill before an account unlocks it. --Honorable Sarah Honorable Icon.gif 18:00, 16 July 2006 (CDT)
do we? because if you look under [GuildWiki:Style and formatting/Skills/Everything Example] it lists
 * Captain Osric (Yak's Bend)
 * Dakk (Ember Light Camp)
but then these don't have it:
 1. 1.1.4 Ice Tooth Cave: Marna
 2. 1.1.5 Lion's Arch: Firstwatch Sergio
 3. 1.1.6 Ascalon Settlement: Captain Greywind
 4. 1.1.7 Beetletun: Ephaz
 5. 1.1.8 Quarrel Falls: Sorim
 6. 1.1.9 Henge of Denravi: Master Scout Kiera
 7. 1.1.10 Maguuma Stade: Avena
 8. 1.1.11 Fishermen's Haven: Mazzim
 9. 1.1.12 The Amnoon Oasis: Tengsao
 10. 1.1.13 Droknar's Forge: Bartoch
 11. 1.1.14 Port Sledge: Thengen
 12. 1.1.15 Camp Rankor: Steig
 13. 1.1.16 Marhan's Grotto: Harnil
 14. 1.1.17 Copperhammer Mines: Gammel
?because each of those trainers offers every skill offered in yaks, do they not? ST47 18:03, 16 July 2006 (CDT)
No, they don't. But you can't tell that if you have the Yak's skills unlocked, which is why I said "before it's unlocked." -- 18:07, 16 July 2006 (CDT)
they do not, by the way. each trainer in Tyria has a unique set of skills. Meteor Shower is available from the skill trainer in the Ascalon Settlement north of Lion's Arch, but it's not available until Ember Light Camp otherwise.
now i'm dating myself; in fact the whole reason Dakk was added was because player were complaining to Anet about being unable to locate the skill they needed. then, later on, anet addedd the "all unlocked skills from all trainers" later on, march i think. --Honorable Sarah Honorable Icon.gif 18:09, 16 July 2006 (CDT)

delete tags[edit source]

I really think you've jumped the gun on adding the delete tags. We should work out what to do with useful information first, before it's deleted. I'm also not convinced that deletion is the best alternative, although I'm not opposed to it. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 10:43, 25 July 2006 (CDT)

eh. IMO they should be deleted cause there are too many to maintain, have no content, and...hmm...what was the third one? the information is in a build article, or should be User:ST47(talk) 10:47, 25 July 2006 (CDT)

If an anon updates a user's page with character info, is that really vandalism? If you're going to revert stuff at least put some thought into it — Skuld 13:26, 27 July 2006 (CDT)

well, skuld is grumpy, again still. revert is a bit much, thou, since the user can fix it once they log in and see it. --Honorable Sarah Honorable Icon.gif 13:32, 27 July 2006 (CDT)

Template help[edit source]

Hmm. I may be needing of some help - what I want to do is make a template that will show diferent things based on different parameters, such as if one type . it might return "ONE!", but if one were to type , it might return "ONE!TWO!" - is that possible?? The preceding unsigned comment was added by ST47 (contribs) 18:37, August 4, 2006.

Hmm...try this if you ever read this.
Template:template should contain this:
"{{#switch: {{lc:{}}}
}}{{#switch: {{lc:{}}}
...and use 1 to produce "ONE!TWO!"
