Babel template[]

I tried to include a template for my native language (Afrikaans) and realised it doesn't exist yet. If there was a Warrior here he would probably say "You're All Alone!" XD. Can someone please tell me how to add another template to the babel thingy? Thanks in advance... Silver Sunlight 15:59, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

I created the Category:Users/Language/af-N page myself, I tried to do it correctly, so please fix if it I didn't or tell my how and I'll do it myself. Silver Sunlight 07:53, 14 March 2007 (CDT)

Well hysbak is a lift, but pletterpet and amperbroekie just sound strange and are definitely not Afrikaans words that I know. Why? Silver Sunlight 07:41, 22 March 2007 (CDT)

It was on a commercial in The Netherlands, and they said it was South African, but they lied! --SigmA

Wait, let me check the dictionary... Pletterpet doesn't exist, but pletter is "it is destroyed". Wow amperbroekie exists lol, it is hotpants. It translates directly into almost pants :P but they are definetly not common words we use. Silver Sunlight 07:47, 22 March 2007 (CDT)

Hidden Caltrops[]

You reverted my edit this page as an anon (I assume it was you) putting the notes I removed back into the article. The reason I removed them was because they were from before an update to this skill. Before the update, it only crippled a person if you hit them while they were moving. Since the update removed the "while moving" part, those skills have no special synergy with Hidden Caltrops. It would be impractical to put "Works well with Bull's Strike and Shameful Fear" on every skill that causes cripple. --Macros 20:35, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

"Full: For 20 seconds, the next time target foe takes damage while moving, this hex ends. When Hidden Caltrops ends, target foe takes 15...63 damage and is Crippled for 5...17 seconds." As far as I can see, the damage while moving part is still there. When was it removed? Because if it was, the template is out of date. It clearly states that the foe needs to be moving for the cripple to trigger (I know it also triggers on removal, but not normal attacks). Silver Sunlight SSunlight 22:25, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

A brief explanation[]

Entropy promoted User:M.mendel to sysop earlier today. Auron subsequently gave up ownership of the gwiki IRC channel. Entropy banned herself for a week, unbanned herself to ask User:KyleH to have the bureaucrat flags removed from several users including herself and Auron, and then banned herself infinitely.

I do not wish to spread bias, so you'll have to draw your own conclusions. Felix Omni Signature 08:19, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

So did Auron disapprove of Mendel's promotion? Silver Sunlight SSunlight 08:23, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm trying really hard not to make any judgments, start any fights, or cause any drama here. See this link: GuildWiki talk:Requests for adminship/M.mendel#Closing. Felix Omni Signature 08:29, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
/Sigh
People take things too seriously. I realise that maintaining a Wiki is a lot of work, but why get so upset over minor details? If the adminship for R. Phalange (I think that was his name...) was accpeted, surely Mendel's can be as well? Unlike Phalange, Mendel has made some major contributions to the wiki, even if some of them are rather strange (haha acorns). But like you said, we shouldn't deliver judgement, especially me who probably doesn't know the full extent of the story. Silver Sunlight SSunlight 08:36, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
I fully agree with you. It saddens me that people are so quick to make such "final" decisions. Some things can't be taken back. Felix Omni Signature 08:57, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

How many...[]

Yeah, for those uhh.... "colorful".... descriptions, check Rellik's contribs. It's rather ugly --Gimmethegepgun 11:43, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Haha I've heard it was him who gave their descriptions a face lift. I guess I'll go through his contribs some time. It's fine that people want to make the wiki fun, but when we allow humour in the articles, it's difficult to tell people when enough is enough. Eventually every page will be crammed with stupid jokes. Silver Sunlight SSunlight 11:46, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

deleting "old skill versions"[]

I would like to give Githyan 24 hours or so to do the merge himself, but I can see where a speedy deletion might be desirable. Tagging the suggestion is a good idea. --◄mendel► 13:13, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

After adding the delete tag I wanted to make sure he knows about the existing suggestion, but you beat me to it :P Silver Sunlight SSunlight 13:16, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
I saw you rummaging in the attic (those old pre-made builds...); which led to me finally acting on this merge. Happy editing! --◄mendel► 14:28, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Suggestions[]

I feel bad about changing so many of your edits because I really like that you've been working on the section - it's been mostly me up to now. I've disagreed with your responses mostly when I thought they didn't accurately portray the consensus on the talkpage (if there is any), so maybe we should just discuss them some more. I think the points you've made are good, but I can probably come up with some good counter-points as well. ;-) --◄mendel► 04:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

I had a feeling someone would intervene :P Some of those suggestions have just been lying there for so long with out any discussion. Pages like that really become hard to use when you have to read through outdated suggestions. (Kind of like what happened to our admin page, before Entropy removed the old admins.) I'll go and have a look at what you did. Silver Sunlight SSunlight 09:12, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Maybe we can just add something like "next action" to make clear what would need to done to move some of those suggestions forward (on the closed ones, no such action comes to my mind). Perhaps we can also add a "date added" column. --◄mendel► 12:22, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, the "next action" would be useful for someone reading the suggestion and thinking "OK, but what now?" I'll make a draft of some kind for an example.
User:Silver_Sunlight/Suggestion_draft
Is that what you had in mind? Silver Sunlight SSunlight 17:04, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Hehehehe. No. It's good, though.
See, what you're doing is creating something like the stuff that is in GuildWiki:Projects. That is good, yet it exceeds the state of the discussion (again). So my "Todo" would just have been "create a project to coordinate and commence work on this suggestion" and expect somebody else to put the details on the project page. Now as you'll quickly see the project pages suffer from the same kind of rot as the suggestions, i.e. you can't readily tell what state these are in - some are reasonably active, some are covered in (virtual) cobwebs, so it wouldn't really have been a very good solution.
Of course there's nothing that's keeping us from using the very suggestion page as a project, i.e. listing it on the Projects index and categorizing it in Category:Community projects. Do you want to do that? --◄mendel► 18:11, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Oops hehe... but like you said there's no reason not to use the suggestion page as the project page. However it feels like a bad thing to disorganize the Suggestions/Projects pages even further. We are attempting to sort them out (like moving around the old suggestions), so I would prefer to create an actual Project page that links from the suggestion.
Before we create a project page though, lets get an idea of how the community feels about the suggestions. It doesn't help to create a project that no one wants to work on. Once we have seen which of the suggestions have the most interest, we can create project pages for them. That way we don't have project pages drifting around with no one interested in editing them. Silver Sunlight SSunlight 18:24, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
I think it's a good idea to not split the page, because it's really the same subject, and then there isn't a big decision involved at any point of the process. Everything that has been written and discussed on the suggestion seem relevant to the project. Maybe it's just the project index that needs work? I'm too tired now to think about how the project index could be structured: sections for "virgin", "active", "temporarily on hold", "completed", "abandoned" ? --◄mendel► 19:16, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
That could also work... Either way, it doesn't really matter in the end where it goes, as long as it's there and easy to reach :P It would definitely be easier to keep it on one page, like the draft I made. Silver Sunlight SSunlight (T/C) 19:25, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Conservatives may be offended by "virgin." Replace with "maiden" imo. 208.44.247.101 19:55, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
