Re: Ban vs Warning

I'm pretty sure there's no documented policy that says someone has to be warned and can only be banned after repeated violations. To me, a 3 day non-permenant ban is the warning for many situations. That said, I do give out warnings before bans on a case by case basis (usually against 1RV or heated discussions that are in the gray area of NPA). I never warn against vandalism. I think the difference is whether general good faith can be assumed about the user (breaking 1RV can come from an honest desire to improve the quality of the article, without realizing it causes trouble; headed discussion that borders on NPA can because the other guy crossed a certain invisible line, triggering a heated lash-back, instead of the user actually wanting to cause problems etc etc). -User:PanSola (talk to the ) 18:41, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
