Warranty
The best bet for dealing with customer service is just lying to them about what happened (I turned it on and it wouldn't work! It's never left my business desk. I guess your hardware is just malfunctioning, just like the reviews said.), be threatening (I'll never purchase another laptop from you again, and I'll be sure to let my company, friends, and coworkers to know the same thing!), or, if you've reached the end of your warranty and the computer isn't covered anymore, make it their fault (I've been trying to reach you every day for ___ days/weeks and you never answer! Ever!). As long as the blame is shifted to them, you're in business. —ǥrɩɳsɧƴɖɩđđɭɘş 17:42, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Heh, thanks, I forgot about that footer- It was sorted out fairly fast ;). I had a new computer in about 3 days. When I put that up, they'd totally fucked up and messed my old computers warranty (which is like, what.. 8 years old) with my new one (which is like, 6 months now). Thanks though. — Warw/Wick 18:08, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

- Vipermagi asked me to look at the issue, and because there are both User: and Talk: pages already in the category, I'm going to fix it by changing Template:Bug to only categorize mainspace articles. No need to forcibly edit anyone else's userpage. —Dr Ishmael 15:07, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

- I didn't know what PvXdecode was, but I've looked it up now, and I think I'll be using that instead from now on. —Dr Ishmael 16:38, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- "PvXcode" is just gwbbcode with a different name... gwshack does the exact same thing. -- (Talk • Contribs) 17:54, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- PvXcode is gwbbcode adapted for a wiki instead of a forum. It's not exactly the same - it looks different, for one, and we don't have all of the advanced syntax working right (for example, in gwbbcode you can type [[skill name] to show the skill name with a mouseover description - on the wiki, that ends up creating random line breaks in places :/). ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 17:59, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ehh, I suppose. I assumed what was posted about was dubbed "PvXcode." That, in fact, is compltely gwbbcode. -- (Talk • Contribs) 18:07, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- I called it PvXCode because I got it from PvXDecode (i.e. from PvX) and because that's what we call it on PvX. *Defiant Elements* +talk 18:09, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

btw
Even if there's contribs from the day before on RC at noon GMT, that's not a fair basis for comparison because you haven't given anyone in America (except dorks like RT who contribute at 6:30 AM) a chance to contribute. Noon GMT is 7:00 AM (though it's 8:00 from DST) for the east coast. For the west coast, it's 4:00 AM (->5:00 DST). It would also probably not be inaccurate to say that much of the userbase would like to sleep later than 8:00 AM. So... hi. --Shadowcrest 15:21, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

- I must say though, Shadow; I remember a time where at noon GMT gwiki would have contribs from barely 5 hours ago or so. — Warw/Wick 16:37, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- I don't, because I (nor most of america) was awake to contribute then. :) --Shadowcrest 16:47, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm referring to like, from 1am gmt -> 7am gmt. There used to be a lot of activity back then. — Warw/Wick 17:00, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- How do you get "noon gmt" to refer to "1-7 AM gmt"? and anyway, there still is. maybe not as much as you remember, but i don't know what your memories are... --Shadowcrest 17:14, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

- Depends whether the people editing are using minor edits. Personally I don't hide them in RC, but I also have all mine set to minor by default *shrug*. Ezekiel [Talk] 10:51, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Then people who don't use it but are wtf spamming should be given a warning and an advice to put on minor edits or else they will get temporary block or something like that. -- Wammo--talkpage Fighterbitsj 15:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- "Then people who don't use it but are wtf spamming should be given a warning and an advice to put on minor edits or else they will get temporary block" wtf? No, seriously, why are you even having this discussion? banning people for, er, "wtf spam" - oh dear. Have we really fallen to the level where you need to debate banning people for this entirely innocent kind of talkpage chat. I mean seriously now, this isn't GWW and i don't see why some people seem keen to push us towards it in terms of our policy interpretations and suchlike. Actually, i do understand that, but in the current climate i would probably receive a "temporary block or something" for er, articulating the point-- - (Talk/Contribs) 16:52, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see a need to contest a wtf chain of 5 messages (omg :O (and it's even split up)) anyhow. They ban for wtf-chains on PvX cause it was really out of hand, but it's nothing near that point here. C'mon. --- -- (s)talkpage 16:56, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Y'know, there's a reason I haven't actually blocked anyone involved in the above yet. It's called a warning or a notification; it's supposed to stop it becoming a detrimental, PvX-style, spamming of "wtf". I'd rather stop it at the beginning than actually handing out bans for it to stop later on. --R Phalange 17:18, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

- A discussion on wtf chains is different to wtf chains themselves. And wtf chains generally don't die unless someone makes them die. --R Phalange 18:45, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- wtf? wtf? will never die. —ǥrɩɳsɧƴɖɩđđɭɘş 21:36, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
(Reset indent) The GuildWiki:Editing guide defines a minor edit as "a change that does not really add new content to a page, such as fixing typos, rewriting sentences, or small formatting changes" and states that "a user who re-reads the page doesn't really gain any new useful information, then it's a minor edit". By the former criterium, wtf spam is not minor, by the latter it probably is. Personal comments on a talk pages should, by those rules, usually not be minor. I have used it for simple "thank you" notes, though. --◄mendel► 10:56, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok, i am missing something ;) I havent played in ages but as i remembered it you could see your own name when whispering. Still though, whats with the seemingly 2 way conversation of characters of the same name?-- - (Talk/Contribs) 18:27, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- The blue shows who is whispering you, the green is who you are whispering. — Powersurge360Violencia 18:29, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Yes yes, forgive my slowness here, but in the last picture, Nezumi Kurikko still appears to be having a conversation with himself, in that his name is both the blue AND the green and he answers his own questions and then responds to that, this still doesn't make sense to my feeble mind :S-- - (Talk/Contribs) 18:33, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
(Reset indent) His name is blue at first because he whispered the player. His name then becomes green, because the player whispered back. When the name is blue, it is he who whispered you. When the name is green it is you who whispered him. — Powersurge360Violencia 18:38, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

- Pfft, whatever, i guess this is what happens when you try to debate a point about a game you dont play anymore :( I thought i remembered that you definately saw the names of both participants because you could click the name in blue thus putting into the whisper box thingy and then....wait - then it appears green when you have whispered them - now it all falls into place - i am an idiot :)-- - (Talk/Contribs) 18:46, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

- Names in brackets mean whispers, while an arrow -> before it means you're sending to the person in the brackets. If it showed your name, then if you were having conversations with more than one person you wouldn't be able to tell who you said what to :P ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 17:30, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Ohi
When dealing with new users who have made a few mistakes accidentally, could you please explain the reasoning behind your actions to them instead of just using the bare minimum required for the delete template? When you don't, you just come across as an asshole, and that reflects badly on the entire community.
On that note, if a mainspace article that belongs in userspace is created by a user that's not an IP, and it's obviously not spam, it would always be wiser to move the article to his userspace rather than slapping a delete template on it, for two reasons. One, it doesn't remove the user's hard work from existence, which can send the message "You are not valuable and we don't care about you." Two, if you move the page yourself, all the sysop has to delete is the left-over redirect, and it saves him some time and trouble. 11:09, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, and check out Perfect World International, cuz that's where RageQuit is moving. It's very easy to get a closed beta key, I can tell you later if you're interested. 11:11, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm lazy and im on holiday. Not a good mixture. Anyways, I'll try PW but I don't live in America, so I probably can't get a cb key. Are you on msn? Talk to you there, easier to talk. — Warw/Wick 12:15, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Failry sure you can subst shit in userspace just fine, so please explain why the mainspace. Btw, it's substing fine now, actually. {{SUBST:Warwick/Archive 49}}. It is working here, too. --- -- (s)talkpage 18:46, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- That template doesn't accept any arguments...what are you trying to do? (T/C) 19:19, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah I know, but the whole point of doing just Warwick/Archive 49 rather than User:PAGENAME or whatever. I needed template definately, anyway. t'was just a test. needs to be deleted now. Discussed it with some guys on #wikia, turns out its impossible. — Warw/Wick 19:40, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- {{PAGENAME}} is basically a null edit - it is the same if I do for example User talk:Warwick - you are linking/substing identical things so nothing happens...Doing {{User:PAGENAME}} is also not valid because of...well, I can't explain why but I know that doesn't work. I understand what you are trying to do though. Let me fix it in a second. (T/C) 02:58, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think the magic word you're looking for is {{FULLPAGENAME}}, which when used here give User talk:Warwick/Archive 49. —Dr Ishmael 04:37, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
