Game update backlog...[]

We keep the current month and the previous month. Page size is not a factor in this. Once we hit November 1st, you can archive september. --Karlos 13:01, 19 October 2006 (CDT)

Secret Update[]

The update that took place last night (2:00 AM pacific so Sunday 22nd for most people) has gone compeltely undocumented. --Karlos 16:17, 22 October 2006 (CDT)

It's not the first time they didn't post a change log. Or at least post it in a timely manner. Should we document those "secret updates"? ~ Nilles (chat) 06:05, 23 October 2006 (CDT)
Patches with no notes aren't really even uncommon. If we definitely know something changed, then it can be documented. If we don't know, then there's not really a point. We've documented at least one patch without notes in the past. --Fyren 06:13, 23 October 2006 (CDT)
We are a fansite, not a mirror of ArenaNet's content. If what changed is verifiable, by all means document it. —Tanaric 09:59, 23 October 2006 (CDT)
On the other hand, if we only know there was a change, but have no clue what was changed, it doesn't make much sense documenting it, does it? --84-175 (talk) 10:31, 23 October 2006 (CDT)
I agree completely, which is why I noted that the content of the change must be verifiable. :) —Tanaric 10:39, 23 October 2006 (CDT)
We can't say what they changed, but we know for sure that there has been a change however small it may be. Other theory: those 'secret' updates are actually time-triggered parts of already documented updates. ~ Nilles (chat) 11:36, 23 October 2006 (CDT)
Or they might just have changed the frogs color from dark green to bright green. This is definitely the realm of speculation (and not the wikis). --Xeeron 12:02, 23 October 2006 (CDT)
I really want to start Secret updates. <LordBiro>/<Talk> 15:03, 23 October 2006 (CDT)

Update 1 - Monday October 23

They added something, or maybe they changed something... post anything you find here... and 1 rule, you dont talk about the secret update club... --Midnight08 Assassin 22:15, 23 October 2006 (CDT)

According to this thread the update was related to the automated closing time for the boardwalk event. I suspect it was a bug fix related to PDT / PST confusion, since the switch is next weekend and GMT doesn't switch. -- Gordon Ecker 03:20, 24 October 2006 (CDT)

And there was another undocumented update today. I'm guessing it was relating to login and disconnect bugs, as I had trouble logging in and got an error 7 soon after the first patch. -- Gordon Ecker 02:08, 26 October 2006 (CDT)

And another undocumented update today. -- Gordon Ecker 22:39, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
Gaile at least partially documented it here. --Rainith 22:42, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
And there was just a second update today. I think today's first update was the start of the halloween event, as Lion's Arch wasn't redecorated last night but it was when I logged on earlier today. -- Gordon Ecker 23:10, 26 October 2006 (CDT)

Emergency Update[]

Emergency update, what's it all about? Pjstaab 21:20, 27 October 2006 (CDT)

Link to Gaile Gray post http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10068061 Post #16 65.7.211.83 21:46, 27 October 2006 (CDT) "We performed emergency maintenance this evening to correct a matter that required urgent attention." That really tells me alot. Pjstaab 23:25, 27 October 2006 (CDT)

If you were a Tyrian or Canthan character in Elona, after the mission Venta Cemetery, there was no way to get the next Primary Quest, The Council is Called, therefore making it impossible to proceed any further in the campaign, or on the continent. Game-stopping bug. Being among those people who were stalled, it was more than a little bit frustrating. Seva 02:17, 28 October 2006 (CDT)
O_o good thing they fixed it. Pjstaab 18:28, 28 October 2006 (CDT)

Question in general about updates[]

These updates can seem large in size opening hundreds of files. I assume some of the files are replacing older ones. Do these updates ever delete old/obsolete files? --Yoda MJR 06:43, 30 October 2006 (CST)

I can't say for certain, but I do know that after both doing in -image, myself and a friend has very differently sized dat files. Mine was about 3.2GB and his was around 5.5GB. He uninstalled and reinstalled Guild Wars and his dat file was smaller than mine.
This suggests to me that the updater does not remove obsolete files. <LordBiro>/<Talk> 08:49, 30 October 2006 (CST)
I remember seeing somewhere that the game progressively removes outdated files slowly... I think it was on GWGuru, in the tech section, when somebody asked what size their GW.dat was supposed to be. I'll go look for the thread again when I get back home. --Kit Engel 22:57, 30 October 2006 (CST)
I deleted my .dat a week or so ago and used -image to re-download everything. Mine was around 3GB but the new .dat is about 5GB. I wnder if they added the Nightfall stuff in or somethhing. 64.91.107.208 01:23, 31 October 2006 (CST)

I know a big part of the .dat size & all that has to do with fragmentation. A standard windows defrag will skip the .dat file because it's so big & scary. The degree of fragmentation might have something to do with all that. (A bit ago, I ran a single-file defragger to bring GW.dat from 500 fragments/file to 2, but when I did so, didn't check the file sizes). Defragmenting this also helps with slowdown. Craw 08:27, 21 November 2006 (CST)

The standard windows defragmenter will only skip the file if you don't have enough space on the drive. --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 10:09, 21 November 2006 (CST)

October 30th update[]

Anyone know what was updated today? 64.91.107.208 20:49, 30 October 2006 (CST)

probably just the stuf for halloween, but possibly a few updates.

October 31st[]

Seems the update was about the Dye Drop, but there may be more to it.

another thing that has changed not in an official update, is pet behavior "during late stages of the plot", ehm ehm. before they acted like hench, now they just die. Foo 11:46, 1 November 2006 (CST)
After I downloaded the update, I was doing research in Mehtani Keys and in one mob of Mandragors, I got 1 red dye and 1 black dye. I had thought the weekend had already begun ;) — Gares 13:03, 1 November 2006 (CST)

Attunements are Fixed[]

I noticed that the 10 energy skills still only gave 30% when I made my ele(before it was listed in the wiki notes). Just thought I would mention that the 10 energy skills now give the proper 30% + 1 energy(10 energy skills now give 4, and all the others stayed the same).

November 7th[]

There's still a Whispers Informant in Turai's Procession. Maybe he doesn't appear until after you've done the quests to get rid of the tormented lands. -- Gordon Ecker 05:11, 19 November 2006 (CST)

That's likely - I just went into TP for the first time today and there wasn't one there. I thought, 'geez, this is a great place to farm LB points' but then remembered the update. — User:Kyrasantae kyrasantae 05:13, 19 November 2006 (CST)

November 10th[]

Possibly changed in this update, unless I just never noticed it earlier - Shahai the Cunning is level 20, not level 16. --Gaspard 02:28, 11 November 2006 (CST)

Item retro-fit[]

Anyone guess at which update retro-fitted all green items from Half skill recharge of Atrribute (Chance: 20%) to Half skill recharge (Chance 20%)? It's not a bad thing, it's just for reference sake. I'm guessing one of these Nov. updates, but not sure since I just noticed it today. — Gares 15:51, 25 November 2006 (CST)

It was the update just before Nightfall release that implemented the Nightfall interface changes (i.e. hench controls). Rather, that update messed up green staff mods, which were then fixed on the update following it. — User:Kyrasantae kyrasantae 16:33, 25 November 2006 (CST)
Actually, that bug wasn't what I was talking about. If you have any 20/20 greens in which 20/20 are one attribute, look again. There is no longer 20/20 of an attribute on, say, a staff like Talous' Staff or Rago's Flame Staff. Its now Half casting time of Attribute and a generic Half Skill Recharge. You will never see:
  • Half casting time of Illusion spells (Chance:20%)
  • Half skill recharge of Illusion spells (Chance:20%)
They have all been retrograded to:
  • Half casting time of Illusion spells (Chance:20%)
  • Half skill recharge of spells (Chance:20%)
They introduced this type of modification on the release of Nightfall for new equipment, but recently upgraded old items, such as Prophecies and Factions greens to reflect this, like how they retro-upgraded old greens from 10/10 AP to 20/20 AP a few weeks after the new mod was introduced in the game. And yes, I am aware that one of my examples, Talous' Staff, still shows the old way, that's because most of the old green stats have not been updated yet. — Gares 07:45, 29 November 2006 (CST)

What is up with the "choose region" option in log in screen?[]

I pick any region but seems like will always log in in America (not that I want to quit AMerica, but to try out other regions. Solito 22:40, 28 November 2006 (CST)

Possibly something to do with the Chinese beta test, it doesn't seem to do anything for anyone else. DKS01 06:38, 29 November 2006 (CST)

Equiping bonus items[]

I got the problem also, is there a solvation on the way?

some people believe there is salvation on the way, but i have a strange feeling thats not exactly what you meant, as for a solution, it will likely be fixed in the next update. --Midnight08 Assassin 13:35, 29 November 2006 (CST)

what is up with anet doing this MEANINGLESS updates? maybe they could do something useful to most of the players? who the hell CARES about the login button The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.189.15.75 (contribs) .

The update isn't away from anything else. Do you understand that there isn't only one or two people doing the game? If one team does something, it doesn't mean that another team isn't working on something usefull. They are making a huge update this weekend and the NF updates were awesome. I think you shouldn't complain if they don't do a huge update every weekend. ;) --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 19:49, 29 November 2006 (CST)

Problem is fixed for me, but it was giving me grief yesterday during a run in FoW.

Update - Thursday November 30[]

WTF did they do? They completely and utterly fuck up Paragon, I know some may think that some of his skills were bit too strong but man that was only because nearly 80% of his other skills were absoluty uselles.Glass 08:45, 1 December 2006 (CST)

I agree, this was a totally over the top nerf to the class, and it wasn't overpowered in PvP because the teams could easily be torn apart. And if this was a flat out attempt to remove holding builds from HA, then why was heroway untouched? Why are heroes still in HA? --62.252.0.12 09:30, 1 December 2006 (CST)

Realy dont know what are they trying to accomplish with this kind of update but if it is to make Paragon weakest profession in all of GW, well congratulations anet you have done it.----Glass 09:54, 1 December 2006 (CST)

Wasn't overpowered??? Tell me how, a team can take 2 monks, 2 full prot paragons, a warrior with 12 earth magic and wards, a thumper with fertile season/symbiosis, and hold the HoH for 4 hours with barely a drop below 50%, is not overpowered? Big lol. — Skuld 09:58, 1 December 2006 (CST)

It's called "strategy." The whole game is about strategy, and Anet punishes us for it. 55 monks aren't really strategy, a team that brings nothing but defense is. This update is crap. Release a new profession and nerf its best metagame build a month or so later. Funny how they never nerf sins. I can see it now... years from now, every metagame build will be nerfed, and we will all play assassins. You can quote me on that. DancingZombies Aura of the Lich 16:11, 1 December 2006 (CST)
Probably because sins got beaten senseless with the nerf bat when they were launched, and ANet's spent the last 6 months trying to make up for it ;) With Nightfall skills, the class is finally nicely rounded in PVE without having to resort to barrage. Feigned Neutrality= Apology accepted, ANet.172.188.78.12 05:18, 2 December 2006 (CST)

My guess is Anet decided the WY/Echo trick was overpowered and that they decided to make the change before a major skill update, where they'll correct new problems accordingly. MrPony 22:21, 1 December 2006 (CST)

Erm, totally "fuck up"? They nerfed 4 Paragon skills and 1 Warrior skill. This doesn't do jack to my protection build, as I use "go for the eyes!" as my spamming shout. Energising Finale seems to have been nerfed to uselessness, which is a bad move. Either it should have been made 10e or the energy gain cut, but both is overkill. If something's overpowered, the idea is to make it balanced, not blow it away. Overall though, it looks like the cookie-cutter HA builds got nerfed without screwing up PVE. Not a bad job, compared to some of the changes ANet's done. 172.188.78.12 05:18, 2 December 2006 (CST)
Some (though not me) saw the rapid expansion of shouts as a balance problem since you can't block them, you can't remove them, most of them don't cost much, Paragons get most or all of the cost back with high Leadership, and they're applied across the whole team. The good shouts have long recharge times as a balance, but echoes are an exception to this since they could be reapplied every five seconds, indefinitely, with only an adrenaline cost. The hard counters (the Necro anti-shout skills) don't look effective at all, and there are few soft counters available for shouts. They're probably going to take the route they did with sins and constantly tweak with the skills until they get what they want. MrPony 11:37, 2 December 2006 (CST)

This update replaced the floating exclamation point quest-person markers with downward pointing arrows, but while adventuring in Wajjun Bazaar I noticed that Paomu retained the exclamation point while giving the quest Problem Salving --Vena Maransdatter 17:44, 1 December 2006 (CST)

I believe that people giving the quest initially still have exclamation points, and that arrows are for NPCs you need to talk to to advance/finish the quest. I'm not absolutely sure, but I think that's how it is. Arshay Duskbrow 02:18, 2 December 2006 (CST)

Ok i agree "finale" was a bit to strong but explain to me why they couldn't simply reduce enegy gain to 2 energy per a shout/chant? It would sill be useful but it wouldn't be overpowered instead we just got skill that requires 10 chants of shouts to justify it own cost.---Glass 11:25, 2 December 2006 (CST)

Plagueborn Armor (and probably more new salvageable armor in Prophecies and Factions)[]

Does anyone know when the Afflicted started dropping Plagueborn Armor. I just saw it drop today, but I suspect it was added in the September 25th or September 27th update. -- Gordon Ecker 01:40, 2 December 2006 (CST)

Possibly new greens too? See the items dropped section of The Afflicted Kam. Hmm, now that I look at the history, that was added before Nightfall came out. I don't know that I trust that edit, seeing as two items were added and neither one has entries here. I guess I'll need to spend some time in Cantha this week. --Rainith 13:09, 6 December 2006 (CST)

AI update[]

Did anyone play with Ele heros ? Because i noticed a change in the way they do with enchantemnt like aura of resto. They put them on immediatly when we enter a fighting area. Wasn't like that before. I noticed becaused it was i that was force to always put them. TulipVorlax 04:18, 3 December 2006 (CST)

I run my Elementalist Hero's with the build below (yes, only those 6), and prior to the update, they would correctly use SF _then_ GG (for maxium energy recovery). Now they always use GG first, often before Attunement. Highly annoying. -- Ranger-icon-smallOblio (talk) 10:46, 4 December 2006 (CST)
Fire Attunement Searing Flames Glowing Gaze Ward Against Melee Rebirth Resurrection Signet Optional Optional
Gah same here. Glowing then SF, forgets to put up Fire Attunement once it goes down... and then Zhed decides that he liked to use the glyph of minor energy with his attunement and max energy. Sigh. Anooneemiss 03:06, 5 December 2006 (CST)
Yeah, it's annoying, but taking Mark of Rodgort solves the glowing gaze issue for him. This is a more practical solution if you're running SF as well though, as it'd help you too.Cyrogenic 11:16, 15 December 2006 (CST)
I've also noticed that when I put Balanced Stance and Drunken Blow on Koss he simply spams drunken blow and never EVER uses balanced stance, probably same issue --Gimmethegepgun 18:24, 16 December 2006 (CST)

Kodonur Crossroads mission[]

Originally Haroj Firemane was a level 24 Centaur boss. Does anyone know when he was renamed to just Veldrunner Centaur, or when he was changed from a level 24 boss to a regular level 20 non-boss centaur and renamed back to Haroj Firemane? -- Gordon Ecker 04:11, 4 December 2006 (CST)

Never mind, the boss is still there and I think there's always boon both a level 24 centaur boss and a level 20 haroj. -- Gordon Ecker 05:14, 4 December 2006 (CST)

Wierd lighting glitch[]

Has anyone else noticed that Canthan and Tyrian characters are significantly darker in Elona and Elonian characters are significantly darker in Tyria and Cantha? The white hair on my Necromancer and Mesmer looks grey in Elona, and my Paragon and Dervish have significantly darker skin tones in Tyria and Cantha. This has been going on since the release of Nightfall. -- Gordon Ecker 21:41, 4 December 2006 (CST)

From the top of my head, yeah, I remember thinking that my necro hair is looking darker lately, probably cause I'm in Elona. Foo 00:56, 5 December 2006 (CST)

Disease[]

Disease now spreads between the Crimson Skull and party members. It also spreads between human foes in Kourna and party members. I haven't tested it on party members yet. It also appears that it no longer spreads between foes of different species. Does anyone know when this change was made? I suspect it was from the pre-Nightfall skill update. -- Gordon Ecker 23:57, 5 December 2006 (CST)

Ever since I started playing in Nighfall noticed that disease did spread through the party, I never noticed it happen before I started in nightfall so thta doesnt mean thats whne it started happening.--Sefre 09:09, 6 December 2006 (CST)
Someone should re-check Talon, Brutus, and Sheena to see if they now are their correct species for disease. Capcom 14:24, 6 December 2006 (CST)

"Diamond added in Material Trader List"[]

Last thing I know the traders sell items which are sold to them by players, so couldn't it just be that John/Jane Doe sold they're Diamond to the trader cus there is no known actual use for it? 84.87.168.39 19:04, 6 December 2006 (CST)

Diamonds were already here at trader before this patch - I bought one a few days ago. Rafal 19:30, 6 December 2006 (CST)

So, I'll just delete the note 84.87.168.39 20:31, 6 December 2006 (CST)

"All superior runes now have a minimum purchase price of 200 gold."[]

Pretty sure it's been this way for a while, unless this means they now always show up as 200 on the list even before getting a quote on it. I've never been quoted less than 200 for one, even though the list could say 100. Capcom 14:16, 7 December 2006 (CST)

Nah, I've bought them for 100 before. I think there has always been a minimum purchase price of 100 for _all_ runes. In fact, I've made a habit of just re-buying certain minor/supior runes whenever I swap builds because the 200 gold (for both runes) just doesn't add up to much considering any normal run yeilds > 1k gold. With this change, my tactic now costs me 300 gold, which is a little unfortunate. I hope they have a floor on sell prices now as well, but I will have to test that later. -- Ranger-icon-smallOblio (talk) 14:24, 7 December 2006 (CST)
It displays the prices as low as 100 in the "last sale" column, but it shows up as 200 when you click the request quote button. -- Gordon Ecker 05:42, 14 December 2006 (CST)

Increased Gemstone Drops[]

I assume this is Anguish Gemstones and not Crafting Gemstones? Has anyone seen a clarification on that, or wording of a Gaile talk that was specific? -- Ranger-icon-smallOblio (talk) 18:46, 13 December 2006 (CST)

Yes it's only Anguish Gemstones Deadjack 20:28, 13 December 2006 (CST)

Graphic error[]

Is it just me, or is there a definite "green tinge" on some of the graphics after logging in? It's like part of the horizon and water graphic is bugged. Maybe it's just my video card...though it's never happened before this update. 24.6.147.36 20:15, 13 December 2006 (CST)

It isn't just you. I've heard from another player that he's got this green tinge, too. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Leet Mo (contribs) .

Hidden update?[]

i have been able to use the inscription "strength and honor" on all of my pvp players before, but just now, i was trying to find the 15^50 inscription, and it says i have only 10^50 inscription unlocked... i know they made it to where if u had the game before nightfall update, some of the inscritions were auto unlocked. does this mean that they decided to take that back or something? or is it a bug that others are having. just was wondering BMW 16:14, 26 December 2006 (CST)

I can't say which ones for sure exactly, but I've had weapon mods disappear before from my unlocked list. Capcom 16:18, 26 December 2006 (CST)
There have been issues before with people losing unlocks. I'm still at full unlock, at least, so it's probably not intentional. --Fyren 16:52, 26 December 2006 (CST)
I can also vouch for this having lost unlocks for skills and wep upgrades before but at sporatic times usually seeming to have something to do with skill balance changes or mod changes to gear.
Heh. I didn't think anything of this until a few days ago when I unlocked the 15^50 inscription... *shrugs*—Aranth Mesmer 14:37, 2 January 2007 (CST)

Monsters with res sigs[]

I'm playing in Kourna toaday and bumoed into something new. A few enemies are using res sigs although they did not use them before. Atleast Kournan Bowmans and Corsair Mind Readers use res sigs now. Does anyone have a clue of all the monsters that got res sigs and maby which update these were added in? --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 09:43, 31 December 2006 (CST)

Like all small new things, its hard to say, but I -think- it was the Dec 20th. Kind of annoying, eh? -- Ranger-icon-smallOblio (talk) 11:19, 31 December 2006 (CST)
I like it. More challenge to the almost boring areas. Do all human enemies now have a res sig? What about non-human enemies? --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 12:08, 31 December 2006 (CST)
I'll have to double check, but I think I've only seen Kournan bowman doing this. I suspect it is limited, either a few creatures got res sigs, or the AI was treaked slightly so they started using them. -- Ranger-icon-smallOblio (talk) 16:36, 31 December 2006 (CST)
That would be funny if the bowman were the only ones with them now. Often in PvE pugs it was the Ranger that was still alive to res a group in the past. Heh. --VallenIconwhitesmall Vallen Frostweaver 08:09, 3 January 2007 (CST)
My original post included links to the Kournan Bowman AND the corsair Mind Reader, a mesmer, so it's not only rangers. Anyone found other enemies yet? --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 08:18, 3 January 2007 (CST)
I believe it is only the Kournan Bowmen who are around the Forts, those Bowmen actually have an ENTIRELY differt skill set than the regular bowmen. I know you can find them in the Fort in Jahai Bluffs. They will be in pairs, 4 of them around the fort, and they will res each other. This is an undocumented change though. --Karlos 08:30, 3 January 2007 (CST)
Great that you happened to know this. Could you update the monster page with the two skill sets and something which explains which is encountered where? What about the mesmers? --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 08:38, 3 January 2007 (CST)
Happy now? --Karlos 16:49, 4 January 2007 (CST)

Dragging Skills to Skillbar[]

I just noticed this, but it might have been much earlier on the 20th, but I can now drag skill from the skill list directly to my skill bar instead of having to move it to the skill bar in the skill listing window. --Jeremy Winston 21:24, 31 December 2006 (CST)

Wasn't this mentioned in one of the official update lists? --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 02:42, 1 January 2007 (CST)
I don't think so. If you can show me, I'll go quietly, though. --Jeremy Winston 15:09, 6 January 2007 (CST)
I've always been able to do this. --Armond Warblade Warrior(talk) 17:01, 16 January 2007 (CST)

Obelisk damage[]

Was this changed? It's currently (at least in random arenas) 50 lightning damage and interrupt -- Pixelz 11:47, 1 January 2007 (CST)

Silly question...[]

Does anyone know when the next skill balance update is expected? I never know when these are coming, yet I know they have some kind of general schedule it follows (usually with the play offs) but I can never figure it out. Little help? --VallenIconwhitesmall Vallen Frostweaver 08:05, 3 January 2007 (CST)

They should come at the end of the Wintersday Event. Now when will that happen? that's another question :P. --Ofer1992 16:58, 4 January 2007 (CST)

I think it's time they nerfed Dervs...--DragonWR12LB 01:24, 6 January 2007 (CST)
Should be in a week or two. Lots and lots of nerfs coming. Though Gaile hates that word. But it's ABOUT TIME THEY INCLUDE BALANCE IMO.

At some point in time...[]

Newly added heroes were changed from being "aggressive" by default to be on "guard" mode by default. I am guessing it's in the last game update, but it may have been prior to that. --Karlos 07:12, 4 January 2007 (CST)

A nice change! --Gem-icon-sm (talk) 15:02, 4 January 2007 (CST)
I am glad for it too, I am just saying it's not documented on our notes. --Karlos 17:21, 4 January 2007 (CST)
Are you sure? Every hero has been different for me. The ones with martial weapons (Koss, Melonni, Jin, Zenmai) were set to attack, while the casters (Dunkoro, Tahlkora, Sousuke, Olias) were set to guard. Note that I've gotten them since the December 20th update as well. Capcom 17:59, 4 January 2007 (CST)
Is it... better... to set casters to guard? Mightywayne 20:55, 6 January 2007 (CST)
I keep the ones with martial weapons (who rely on their weapons for most everything) on Fight, and the casters on Guard. Capcom 22:05, 6 January 2007 (CST)
This may be getting too far off topic, but if you throw some interrupts on your Mo/Me, I find they will not use them if they are set to "do not attack". So I always set casters to guard. -- Ranger-icon-smallOblio (talk) 11:09, 8 January 2007 (CST)
