I'm a bit confused, doesn't the Jade Quarry fall under the same circumstances as Fort Aspenwood, hence lose the (Mission) designation? I don't see the difference.--Chrono traveller 10:12, 1 June 2006 (CDT)

The Fort Aspenwood article is atypical and currently undergoing discussion in its talk page. I believe we should base the pages on the scheme laid out in well established mission articles such as Thunderhead Keep, (redirect to Thunderhead Keep (mission)) and Thunderhead Keep (outpost). Koyashi 10:15, 1 June 2006 (CDT)
I would hardly consider it under discussion, guidelines that Karlos posted 2 months ago, and which noone disagreed with. I have no problem changing the standard, but shouldn't another discussion be held before changing it? --Chrono traveller 10:22, 1 June 2006 (CDT)
The discusson on Talk:Fort Aspenwood had a different conclusion that what you seemed to think it did. Most participants agreed that the mission page should be in the standard "Page (Mission)" format. Koyashi 10:28, 1 June 2006 (CDT)
Ok, now you're really confusing me, I see the following guideline being applicable:
a) If a mission and alocation share the same name, the mission gets the unparenthesized (is this english?) name. Location gets the (Location) qualifier. The mission gets no parentheses because the name is shared with a location (2 locations actually). Furthermore, it seems that Draygo interpreted the discussion in the same way I did. How did you interpret this? --Chrono traveller 10:40, 1 June 2006 (CDT)
Again, see the precedent of Thunderhead Keep. The name without a parenthesized suffix is redirected to the (Mission) suffix. This is true for every mission in the game, including PvP missions such as Heroes' Ascent. I don't see a pressing need to make an exception for The Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood. Koyashi 10:44, 1 June 2006 (CDT)
To resolve the conflict, the unparenthesized name points to the XYZ (Mission) article. It does not contain the article itself. That's how all the missions in Prophecies are done. --Karlos 03:10, 2 June 2006 (CDT)
Sorry, I guess I misinterpreted your guidelines in Talk:Fort Aspenwood (mission). --Chrono traveller 10:34, 5 June 2006 (CDT)

To-do[]

Still some things missing before it can be unstubbed...

Since I play this mission almost everyday, I can help confirm their Elites (as a start.) --Xiu Kuro 11:24, 18 August 2006 (CDT)

The NPC's for both sides are the same. I played the Luxon side this weekend and I can confirm that the Thunder and the Illusionist have the same skills as the Storm Caller and Wizard. Both sides are the same; the same advantages, disadvantages and exploits. :) --Aspectacle 17:54, 20 August 2006 (CDT)

As of now, due to a recent update (can't tell which one), the corpse Exploit has been (partially) fixed; the guard post nearest to the Luxon base is now pre-owned by Luxons. The Kurzick side, however, is -not- fixed. --Xiu Kuro 08:44, 19 September 2006 (CDT)

Ranger NPCs[]

They've got fairly low health totals, I've killed them with one casting of Rotting Flesh and one or two castings of Deathly Swarm. I haven't been there in a while, so I don't remember if I was able to kill them with only a single casting of Rotting Flesh. I'm also not sure about the health totals of the other NPCs. -- Gordon Ecker 22:49, 24 October 2006 (CDT)

Empty[]

Should we mention the significance of the vacancy of this place? There is a small line in the article at the bottom but it should be much more prominent as there is no use for the article if this mission can never get started! I have been there many times and if I am lucky I may see one other player in the area. --DragonWR12LB 01:02, 9 January 2007 (CST)

Indeed, only once have I seen any more than 2 players in Jade Quarry. We had enough Kurzick players to start a game but there were no Luxon opponents around. It's a shame, as Aspenwood has started to get a little too easy for me. Napalm Flame 20:44, 26 January 2007 (CST)

Yes, I only have unlocked this area with several characters in the last couple of months, but have yet been able to get a mission started. Even during peak playing times (nights & weekends, both sides of the JQ are fairly deserted). Ironically, the only time I was able to access this mission was during Factions BWE. I would suggest (assuming that it hasn't been done already) that everyone start or post on threads in the various fan forums with suggestions on how to improve this situation. HanokOdbrook 12:14, 6 March 2007 (CST)

There, there is now a big, bold sign that says "This mission sucks!" Much clearer than that little notice at the bottom of the page. Entrea Sumatae 23:44, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

It should be mentioned here at this point - in case people read this before they do go there and get discouraged - that after the update to the faction gathering process the place is nowadays rather crowded again - though there seem to be more Kurzick than Luxon players.81.200.198.20 11:54, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Fort Aspenwood is just more fun![]

Having finally played Jade Quarry a couple times I just do not buy the "Luxons have an advantage" Fort Aspenwood theory. Trying to protect slow moving NPCs carrying jade is just not that interesting, especially given there is nothing that can be done to e.g. speed them up. In Aspen it comes down to putting up a really good defense or pushing hard to break that defense (at least when both teams are good). I think because of the much more direct involvement of the players on both sides it just feels more satisfying when victory is achieved. In Jade Quarry I think it feels more like baby sitting the very slow NPCs. The cut scene at the end doesn't help but I have been told Aspen used to have one (which means ANet has given up on JQ). Argel 19:54, 10 March 2007 (CST). Edit: Cleaned this up. Argel 11:57, 11 March 2007 (CDT)

Recently there was a last attempt by Anet to make this game more playable by the extra faction update in the competitive mission. This lead to about a day of moderate activity before it returned to its ghost town state. I totally agree with you, Fort Aspenwood is just more fun, the fact that there is actually an advantage for the Kurzicks in the Jade Quarry in the form of the Luxon-contoled guardpost next to the Kurzicks thus leaving room for the Consume Corpse or Necrotic Traversal exploit to take place while the luxons are unable to do this makes it even less fun for luxons and Kurzicks alike (Luxons will hardly ever win and Kurzick don't get any competition). If Anet are to make this more playable they will have to change the whole system of play, (not likely) reinforcing your belief that theyhave probably given up on this. A big shame.Mortsu 12:10, 26 June 2007 (CDT)

The Kurzick exploit got fixed in today's patch. Not that it means much; there's other factors that make this mission not very fun. --Xiu Kuro 22:41, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
People dislike balance apparently. If you think FA is balanced, let kurz npcs vs. lux npcs (no player involvement). The lux will destroy all the kurz npcs except the last 3 mains. There's no trigger to get the lux wars to run in, other than player aggro. --8765 22:46, 28 June 2007 (CDT)
See, that is exactly the point. For Luxons, the NPC's can get you to the end, but you have to finish it. For the Kurzicks, the NPC's around the fort are just support and will be taken easily. However, Gunther and the Gatekeepers can survive on their own, while being critical to victory. The similarities: Kurzicks can't win if Gunther and the Gatekeepers die and I have rarely seen a game where the Luxons win without using the siege turtles and luxon warriors. It is not completely balanced in terms of NPC's, but pretty darn close. --Ninja in ya Face 13:31, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
small note, not that it matters, but I think you can put windborn speed or one of the paragon shouts(lead the way I think) and speed the carriers up.70.124.126.83 14:32, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Just another small note, i've only done this twice (once on each side) ... well it was after the patch fix but I was on winning teams both times. Granted I used a barrager which has been my default elite ever since my first ranger. 156.12.150.147 16:19, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Fun-wise I believe it is a matter of personal taste. One of the challenges of JQ is the random composition of your team. You have to see what you can do best with your random setup and what you cannot. Do you defend and speed up the carriers (yes, using Paragon shouts this is very effective - you can keep them constantly at +33% IMS), do you pressure the enemy team, do you try to take out their carriers, etc. It's not unheard of that a team who was way behind like 4-7 still managed to win after they coordinated a bit better and played to their strengths. From a Luxon point of view - unless you sync - there's just so many hopeless team compositions .... JQ is more versatile here.81.200.198.20 12:03, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Dead mission. - Okay. Now how do I explore?[]

This is really frustrating... Not that the mission is dead and nobody wanna do it. Now I'm trying to get the explorer title and I can't uncover the mission's area because I can't enter it... I need 8 people on each side to enter it while the maximum I can see in each side is usually 2 or less.

Check the gwguru forums, there's usually someone organizing groups to map it on the Explorer forum. You don't have to map it to get max carto, but it really helps. -Malcheior Sveth 05:07, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Jade Quarry and Monastery Overlook are not needed for the Canthan Explorer title - I got roughly 100.2% without both of those areas.--Call Me Rexy 21:21, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm at 99.5% and am only missing those two you mentioned. :/ Is there another trick area beside E. Terraces?--Birchwooda Treehug 20:22, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
If you're really stuck, I advise you to try out texmod. I was stuck at 99.6% without those two areas for a while and got fed up having that title track and the leg. title track halted (I couldn't wait for the festival to get the monastery) so I ran texmod. There were only MINOR areas that needed mapping and surprisingly... they gave me 100% easily. I speak from experience - you can absolutely get 100% without those two areas. Also, have you tried the Arena? We'll see how it goes from there. --Call Me Rexy 11:59, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Ok hi all i need some HELP. first metioned above u talk about texmod what is that? i need someway to get more exploration
Try this link here: [1]. Download this program (it's in the first paragraph named TEXMOD) Then go here: [2] and download the desired reference map with full charted areas. Run TEXMOD and select gw.exe and highlight the file you downloaded in the second link. Click run and the game should start and when you go to the world overview map, you can see what you've missed. Hope this helped - cheers. --Call Me Rexy 23:28, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Again - it should be noted that after the update to the faction gathering mechanisms the place is once again alive and starting a mission there is easy, although it sometimes takes a few minutes before one can enter.81.200.198.20 12:05, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Don't let this mission die![]

If you like balanced competive missions this is for you! Yes it's usually empty but a lot of that is because people don't wait around to see it start. I played over 5 rounds today! --Crasher 02:17, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

sorry but how do I enter with a pvp char? I would love to try this 75.155.112.20 18:07, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
You must first own Factions. Head to the Great Temple of Balthazar, and speak to the Kurzick Recruiter or Luxon Diplomat in the center square with the trophies. As mentioned above however, good luck finding a game. I found JQ fun too, but outside of CM bonus weekends, it's a dead zone. Madrak Aetrus Arakeen 23:55, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

faction update[]

with the large increase in faction jade quarry now gives.. this mission is no longer dead. a lot of people actually play this now.

I imagine that the luxons rage quiting from fort aspenwood has helped a bit as well. Deviant Priest 06:50, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

secret base defenders?[]

"Erek and Kommandant Durheim have the skill Base Defender." <- recent addition

Could someone check? Seems odd for such a thing to go unnoticed for so long and/or weird that they would sneak it in suddenly. Entropy Sig (T/C) 04:24, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

There are 4 or so base defenders with base defense in front of the gates to go out, I can't get close enough to confirm or deny that the 2 factions commanders have the skill. To test this you'd probably need scorpion wire and a player on the other side willing to drag you into the back of the base. Deviant Priest 21:02, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

stuck juggernauts[]

seems that juggernauts tend to get stuck for no reason. they are too deep to be killed and respawn so when that happens, it becomes a very bad game for the kurzicks. no idea if this happens to luxon as well 67.112.123.252 08:24, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Stuck turles do happen too - however, this is furtunately a rare event. What is way more common and at least as annoying are the leechers, early quitters and bots that haunt the place in an embarrassing amount. 81.200.198.20 12:15, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

I've had the juggernaught get stuck a lot lately...3 times in the last 30~ games i've played--IkimonoNeeds more ParagonMonk-Paragon-icon 18:46, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Victory Mechanics?[]

I just won a match of JQ today with a score of 7 to 7 when the time ran out. It decrared my team a s the victors. I can't be sure about last minute changes, but I think we controllef fewer shrines at the time. Also, three of our team had left the game. Upon a tie when the timer runs out, what decides the victor? Or did it merely give both teams a "victory" (I was not around any Kurzick players at the time, so I was unable to see if they auto-died or not.)Is there some condition? does it give it to the underdogs? (5 luxons against 8 kurzicks?) how is this decided? Shadowshear 19:31, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

It's probably the team that scored the most recently that wins.75.92.46.118 21:35, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
In tiebreakers for AB, Kurzicks win by default because the letter K comes before the letter L in the alphabet, and so the game updates the Kurzick score first. I dunno if that applies to CMs also. Entropy Sig (T/C) 00:13, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Actually, Kurzicks win in that situation because Anet is completely biased towards Kurzicks. Don't try to cover up for Anet by using "logic." --Macros 01:06, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Unless I misread, the Luxons won that battle.Entrea SumataeEntrea [Talk] 01:12, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
That isn't "logic". It's the official explanation provided by the developers. Entropy Sig (T/C) 01:13, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
And that is just more proof of a cover up. --Macros 01:15, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Well, as "logical" as Entropy's statement was, yes, the Luxons won. Ann I am certain we were the ones to score most recently as well. It was 6 ot 7 Kurz lead at 9 seconds, at 4 seconds Luxons scored, and got 7 to 7 then it declared "Victory!" For the Luxons. Shadowshear 14:30, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Build How teams should properly do JQ to get the most faction possible.[]

http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/User:Ikimono1/Build_How_teams_should_properly_do_JQ

Used to do^ that with my guild back when there would be 1-2 people in JQ. half of us would go luxon side and half of us would go Kurziks side and just farm faction. Much more profitable now.--IkimonoNeeds more ParagonMonk-Paragon-icon 18:48, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Waiting times....[]

Has anyone noticed that its been taking forever to get into a game since the Korean servers got taken offline??? Ive been doing nothing but JQ everytime im in game for the last 2 months solid & the wait was never that long.

it doesnt matter what time of day it is. I click enter a game then go off make some toast, have a cuppa tea & do some house work & id still be standing in the same place with the timer counting down. this is really starting to put me off playing since im not a farmer or titles grinder. i cant be arsed to pug AB teams ive pretty much completed all campaigns & expansions, all i want to do is JQ & i cant even seem to do that because the wait is utterly atrocious. If im not in by the 10th restart I usually just shut the game down & go back to playing L4D or TF2

do not like[]

see here for argument pl0x.

Imbalance[]

I've noticed that there's an imbalance in the game. The Caravan guards on Kurzick side of the Yellow Quarry don't shoot at the passing Juggernaut, but the ones on the Luxon side do shoot at the passing Turtle. --Ender A 22:52, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Theory About Stuck Carriers[]

I think the jade carrier NPC's have a higher chance of getting stuck when people have used IMS abilities on them. It seems to occur with higher frequency when I actively "Make Haste!" the carriers. Anyone else notice this? Lazuli 15:57, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

It seems pretty random to me. EM Signature ***EAGLEMUT*** TALK 17:39, February 7, 2010 (UTC)
