Anonymous characters
User:Cobra3k has uploaded this file for use on his PvP character slot which often changes appearance. Unfortunately, this picture has a gray background and can thus only be used on characters whose profession is "any". If you (or somebody else reading this) could find or create a similar image (black shilhoutte in approximately these dimensions, or as a scalable vector graphic = .svg), with a transparent background, it would probably make a great default image for character templates. (edit conflict) If you look at the file with a text editor (it's got XML inside), you see that most of it is one big block of binary data starting with "data:image/png;base64,.... So it wouldn't be scalable anyway. I used to have a program that could convert bitmaps into lines, but it's not installed now (was part of the Corel suite). --◄mendel► 00:27, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

I am fine. I live in the foothills far from shore, it would need 300+ ft. waves to reach us, and that isn't going to happen. There was a lot of damage in the Waikiki and Honolulu regions, windward not so much. One person missing, three injured so far. That piece that I just posted had been going through multiple rewrites since I finished my last post. Originally it was going to have a much lighter tone, but with the seriousness of the meeting, I would just be very conflicting and jarring to readers to have the back and forth between the meeting and Sasha as I had planned, so Sasha's story gets scrapped until a time in which it would make more sense to have it, like at the beginning of chapter two, especially considered I had very little in head stuff this time around.--Łô√ë îğá†ħŕášħ 01:02, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I see the logic of this system...but I find it impossible to follow a thread like that without the context spelled out (as you have done above). Without the explanation (of which post was in reply to which prompt), I find I spend more time trying to sort out who was replying to what...and hardly anytime thinking about what people meant when they posted (not an ideal ratio).
A well-designed forum/bulletin board makes this kind of stuff easy; wiki talk pages make it difficult. Part of the problem is that folks don't necessarily follow the same pattern. (It's even more fun when two people carry on a convo by posting their replies on the each other's talk page...instead of on just one person's.)

A well-designed forum/bulletin board makes this kind of stuff automatic; on wikis we do it manually; this makes the wiki more work, but the advantage is that it's more flexible, the idea is that experienced users can help/correct other users when they get it wrong, and if you accidentally reply to the wrong post on an automated threading system, there's no way to correct it unless you mess with the system. I believe that's not a problem, it's just different.
We've never done the "reply on each other's talkpage" thing here, for precisely that reason. People are supposed to use their watchlist to keep track of important topics. I find it pretty hard to keep track of conversations on twitter for that reason. --◄mendel► 11:06, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

it's possible it's not actually off key, but it's notes that sound bad next to each other... Dissonant is the term iirc. for example, 1:21 has it, but the yeah after that doesn't. --El_Nazgir 12:56, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

The post focused on that issue and did not conflate it with other concerns, particular not with convos germane to wiki articles and policy.
It clearly distinguished between your opinion, your sense of appropriate behavior, and the actions of another person.
It avoids attacking the person by using rational arguments that combine the above: I (the poster) think this and these actions appear (to the poster to be) thus, which has this effect (on the reputation of the primary audience).

Well, I gave in and actually read it. I decided to treat it as "reading something Gigathrash wrote" rather than "reading fanfiction" (I used the same sort of self-justification for reading my wife's stories about her GW characters). Since I have very little experience with fanfics, I can't really judge it in context, but I'll give some general critiques.
I found the overall plot sort of... generic, I guess. But that's what "slice of life" is supposed to be, isn't it? So I can't really judge it based on that alone. Also, it's apparently only the first chapter of a longer story.
Characters, again, sort of generic. The guy who's super-organized but still likes to party. The female friend who thinks she's sexy and is obsessed with "Mr. Destiny" (and thus has no romantic interest in the main character at all). The kid who's super smart and out of place with a lot of awkward baggage. Again, first chapter, I'm sure they'll get rounded out better later on.
I liked your writing style. Dialogue flowed smoothly, and the characters and setting were described well (even if that fourth paragraph felt a bit like an infodump). There were a few spots that felt like the narration "stumbled" for me (I had to go back and reread a few lines before they made sense), but that happens to me with bestseller novels, too.
