Factions info[]

Hey Rainith,

The info is from the original CGW article. I just thought it was time to put some of that info up now, since its been ages since the mag's release, and it's not even in shops anymore. Kidburla 06:20, 17 February 2006 (CST)

The Chat article[]

Hi Rainith, the reason I linked to chat from the Main Page is that it is listed on Special:Lonelypages as a page with no links in, and I can't think of a better place to put it than on the main page. Otherwise, we may as well just delete it. Thanks, Kidburla 14:58, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

A good place for the chat article, would be linked from a general "Getting Started" page, or maybe somewhere in the Pre-Searing guide, but not off of the main page itself. The main page should hold links to things that are useful for (most) everyone. If you've played the game for more than a week and haven't been able to figure out the chat structure, I don't know that anything else here on GuildWiki is going to be able to help you.  ;) (I'm really not trying to be mean to anyone here, but I've got a cold right now and that may be skewing my already warped sense of humor.) --Rainith 15:12, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

HoH items[]

Any change requests for the Hall of Heroes unique items page go here.

  • This article should be constructed the same way the Unique Item List article is, ie there should be a link to a summary of these new green items, for quick reference.
See Talk:Hall of Heroes unique items#Merge with Unique items list. There is a discussion there about merging this page with the Unique items list, and a note that these new weapons have already begun to be added to the Unique Items Quick Reference page. Being as this is a wiki, you can of course help in the updating of the Unique Items Quick Reference page. --Rainith 11:57, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

This page is no more, it has been incorporated into the Unique items list (see below).

Unique items[]

Any change requests for the Unique items list page go here.

Good job, the combined page looks very nice. --Karlos 15:57, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

The document and image title on the Gordac's Holy Rod article doesn't reflect the actual item name from the game, as the other articles does. It says “Gardock's Holy Rod”.

Fixed. --Rainith 16:21, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Not sure if this has been discussed already - I didn't see it. Should the article Unique_items_list be added to Category:Items? --Barek 22:56, 10 February 2006 (CST)

Let me guess, you were looking at the Uncategoriezed Pages page? This specific page hasn't been discussed before, but it has been decided in general that not all pages need to be placed in a category. However I belive that you might have a point in this case. Start up a discussion on the talk page for the Unique items list and see what others think. --Rainith 06:03, 11 February 2006 (CST)
Actually, I was looking for these items from the page Category:Items and couldn't find them, then spotted the link to the article on the main page. I'll go ahead and start the discussion on the article's talk page. --Barek 09:33, 11 February 2006 (CST)

Image Edits[]

I'll go ahead and fix up the linked-from pages on the current Images-marked-for-deletion, but I have a feeling I'll be adding a lot more tonight. There's an absolute horde of misnamed images, and it's slow going with these overloaded server(s). --Imperialist 06:09, 02 February 2006 UTC

Bestiary Information[]

Heya Rainith.

I wrote something on Talk:Bestiary you might be interested in. Even if you're not, you're probably more in touch with who's contributing where than I am these days; if you have a better way of getting my message across, I humbly request your assistance. —Tanaric 18:30, 11 February 2006 (CST)

Re: Guild Discussion/Inactive Leader[]

Hey, thanks for the heads up. Hope we get into contact with our leader again soon... the past eight days has felt like an eternity with our new sigil, so I can only imagine how long another two months will feel. Thanks again for the info. 69.124.143.230 01:14, 12 February 2006 (CST)

This edit[]

Please explain. And the worryingly quick reaction time. 69.124.143.230 06:45, 17 February 2006 (CST)

Yeah to be fair I don't really understand that edit either. Kidburla 06:49, 17 February 2006 (CST)

I don't mean to make trouble or anything, it's just that... unless there is some direct evidence from the developers (in which case a reference should be added), it should at the very least be assumed that the skill is a reference to a character that actually appears in-game, as opposed to a storyline which exists entirely out of the context and continuity of the game lore itself. Am I wrong in assuming this? Of course there's nothing wrong with also including "this skill also is probably a reference to such-and-such or so-and-so". 69.124.143.230 06:56, 17 February 2006 (CST)

From Bonetti (pay special attention to the bold words):

This character is a reference to the film The Princess Bride. In the scene where Inigo is fencing with the Man in Black he asks, "You're using Bonetti's Defense against me, ah?"

The Guild Wars character Farrah Cappo is a reference to another fencing master identified in the same scene: "Naturally, you must expect me to attack with Capo Ferro."

Rocco Bonetti and Ridolfo Capo Ferro were both Renaissance Italian fencing masters.

As for the quick reaction time, luck of the draw, I hit refresh not too long before I left work, and made a few edits. --Rainith 10:37, 17 February 2006 (CST)
Bonetti is a boss of the Renegade Bandits. The skill Bonetti's Defense is named after him.
This is in the Description. Thus the confusion. And again, @Bonetti page, is there a direct reference from a developer or other source to use it as "canon"? I dunno, I don't see how -- never mind, I just checked out Bonetti's Defense and the new edits make total sense. Thanks for the feedback and all. 69.124.143.230 23:02, 17 February 2006 (CST) (formatting for ease of future reference)

FireFox[]

Heh, you should probably just pre-emptively get rid of all the misspelled Skill images, it's only a matter of time till FireFox gets to them. =D 69.124.143.230 12:22, 18 February 2006 (CST)

I'm thinking that he is downloading the mis-spelled ones and then re-uploading them under the correct name, so I don't want to jump ahead of him.  :) --Rainith 12:25, 18 February 2006 (CST)
Right you are! --FireFox Firefoxav 11:39, 25 February 2006 (CST)

Question about Image Editing and Uploading[]

Okay, I admit I'm a bit of a perfectionist and that digital imagery is not my friend. I have some screens that I would like to upload and I have been looking at other ones people have done. I can't seem to find an efficent way to cut out the backgrounds of the screens. All I have is Microsoft Photo Editor and it is a bit hard to get along with or I dont know how to work it. I know I would need to convert my bmp files to jpeg and I can buy a convertor np. Any help would be appreciated and I can start working on some new articles. Thanks --Gares Redstorm 01:20, 19 February 2006 (CST)

I am probably not the best person to ask about image editing. I have Photoshop and can cut out nice square/rectangular images from screenshots, but that is about it. My best suggestion would be to use a program like Photoshop and play around with it. I don't think you'll have much luck with MS Photo Editor, but I could be wrong, I don't know that I've ever used it. You might ask Chuiu as he made our Gold and Platinum icons, which involved cutting out the backgrounds of those images. --Rainith 18:53, 19 February 2006 (CST)
If you wanted to just convert image types, I use ACDSee but if you're after something free you could try the GIMP. http://www.gimp.org/ It's a free image editing program, it's been around for donkeys, originally for UNIX based systems but you can get it for Windows too now. I haven't used it much and I haven't used the Windows version but it might suit your purposes and save you some money, it's pretty powerful too. --Xasxas256 19:45, 19 February 2006 (CST)
Been trying to fool around with MS Photo Editor in between Tombs runs and no luck yet. I already had Gimp from when I was doing some things for a NWN PW I use to work on. I didn't know it worked with photos though *suprised. I'll figure it out.
One more 'wiki noob' question if you'll indulge me. I have been looking everywhere for something that tells about creating a new article. I've seen formatting, I've seen everything I could think of, but nothing about where to start creating an article. I know Wikipedia has a create article button. I even googled the topic and found nothing pertaining to it. Rainith, you might like what I am going to do. I have around 12 new articles I want to write for category salvage items. Since that is one of your projects. Thanks and I promise when I get started I ask less questions :P --Gares Redstorm 04:16, 20 February 2006 (CST)
I'll help you with how to create a new article irregardless of if I'd like them or not.  :) There are a few ways to start a new article, I'll run you through a couple of them.
  1. Easiest way (not necessarily the "correct" way) is to edit an article (any article, this page for example) and put a link to the name of the article you wish to create, like so: [[Uber-super-cool-godlike build]] Then just hit the Show preview button, this will show you a preview of what your edit will look like and your article will show up as a red link, like so: Uber-super-cool-godlike build Then, instead of hitting the Save page button just click on the red link and you will be editing your new article.
  2. Now we actually have a page set up to do exactly that called GuildWiki:New contributions, this one you can save the page and then click on your link.
  3. But if you're adding some salvage items, the best way to do it would be to go to the page of the monster that drops them, say you have info for the salvage item dropped by Avicara Wise, the Avicara Wise Attire. If you look at the Avicara Wise page and you will see that there is already a red link in the Items Dropped section. Just click on that link and it will take you to a blank edit page for that article. If the monster's page doesn't have the info, edit the Items Dropped section and add it, then click on the link.
This concludes our lesson for today.  :) Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll do my best to answer them. --Rainith 09:26, 20 February 2006 (CST)
Thanks! Got it all figured out now. :P Even figured out how to fix my screens, i.e. Giant Slayers Hammer and Dwarven Hammer. Much appreciated. --Gares Redstorm 11:59, 21 February 2006 (CST)

Reverting[]

I notice a lot of vandalism, and I imagine you guys look around for it as I see you fixing it up. If we see vandalism is there a way we should help, I just tried to help by "flagging" two of them, but wasn't sure if that's a good idea. Is there a Category:Vandalised tag or some such non-staff can use to help cut down your workload?--Epinephrine 05:42, 24 February 2006 (CST)

You too can revert it, you just don't have the easy 1 button that admins do. The way to do it is to hit the history button at the top of the article, click on the last "good" edit, click on edit button and then save the page. I'll check out the ones you flagged though, thanks.  :) --Rainith 06:03, 24 February 2006 (CST)

Hey man, I accidentally got into a revert war with this fella. By the time I realized what he was doing, I had already mistakenly reverted the same article too many times. (He was attacking my user page section by section and I got a bunch of edit conflicts. I was sorting it out in different tabs and noticed his actions too late.) I also managed to put the ban notice on the wrong page. Aargh! I am sure you will come clean it all up eventually, so just apologizing for making a mess of things. I'll steer clear of this anonymous feller until he's nice and banned. — Stabber 06:06, 24 February 2006 (CST)

No problem Stabber, thanks for trying to reign him in, I was about to ban him and got interruped here at work. He's banned now, and I'm going to go thru what he has edited an revert it all back to the last good edit. --Rainith 06:14, 24 February 2006 (CST)

This edit[]

What was so bad about it? It made it ten times easier to see who would replace who at Deldrimor War Camp and Thunderhead Keep and thereon, especially with the note just below it. 69.124.143.230 06:20, 24 February 2006 (CST)

You are correct. I put it back in. At a quick glance, coming from an anon edit, it looked like someone was playing around with the Horizontal line (use sparingly) button. If you'd register a user name, I probably wouldn't have even bothered to check the edit in the first place.  ;) --Rainith 06:27, 24 February 2006 (CST)
I see. Well, I admit it may not make the page look... "ten times" easier to view... of course if anybody had any other ideas, they'd probably be better. Or maybe a line after the henchmen instead of at the very bottom, I just thought it looked cluttered for all of the henches to be stuck together. 69.124.143.230 06:36, 24 February 2006 (CST)
