What happened? —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 05:00, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

It was blocking new user registrations. They removed it and replaced ReCaptcha til they can figure it out. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 05:02, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

new code deployment[]

Could you poke Kaelten to do a site deployment? I pinged him on IRC about it yesterday, and he's not on now. Also, could you ask him how he wants me to communicate with him? This isn't the first time he's been unresponsive toward me, both over IRC and email. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 15:58, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Sure Ish :D -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 15:58, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

New User Registery[]

As per User talk:CutlassS and previous experience, I would like Autoconfirm to be changed to 5 edits. It is unnecessary to wait the 5 days for image uploads and page movements. Our wiki is not a great target of spam and vandals and our community has proven multiple times to be able to stop whatever does get thru our new systems.--Łô√ë Gigathrash sig Gîğá†ħŕášħ 19:39, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

I've sent an email to Tim regarding this issue, so hopefully he's already looking at it. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 19:42, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I made the change you requested Ish. New users need to make 5 edits to become autoconfirmed. They can't upload images or move pages until they have done that, but it's any 5 edits... -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 20:30, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
What is a Tim? Felix Omni Signature 23:57, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Oh come on, everyone knows what a Tim is. :P
Tim Aldridge is the head PHP developer for wikis at Curse. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 02:10, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Dumps[]

Is there any chance you could convince Bryan or Tim to set up a weekly database dump for us? We requested it back when we first migrated, but Bryan blew it off as a waste of resources. We eventually convinced him to produce a one-time dump because we actually had an immediate task that required it, but the file is no longer available.

There wouldn't be any need to archive them for historical purposes, just replace the "current" files each week, so it's not going to be a huge storage hog (the dumps at Wikia are just over 1 GB). I realize that it does take a significant amount of CPU time to write out that much data, but surely your servers have enough capacity to handle that?

I'm bringing this up again now because a user requested it in order to have an archive of all the userpages before I wipe them out. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 15:41, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Current dump is available at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/289359/backup-2011-09-29-11.dump.gz We are discussing a network wide policy for doing regular data dumps network wide. I'll keep you posted. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 16:38, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
That's awesome news, thanks! —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 16:53, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Poking for update. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 17:36, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
hmmm I will see what I can find out :D -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 20:56, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Widgets borked again[]

This has happened before - pages with widgets on them won't load, including my userpage. (Edit+preview also doesn't work, but if you remove the widgets, the preview works.) The last time this happened, it was due to incorrect permissions on a system directory where the Widgets extension writes some temporary files. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 22:40, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Have you poked anyone about this yet? —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 19:31, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
No, sorry Ish, I have been both occupied with another project, and away actually having a life for the past couple days. I will poke the guys about this tomorrow and see if we can't get it resolved. Sorry! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 03:18, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Question.[]

Would there be a way to apply a filter to all non autoconfirmed users to allow them to create pages under their own userspace? I know why they can't create pages, but this just popped up.--Łô√ë Gigathrash sig Gîğá†ħŕášħ 20:28, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Well, we can adjust the permissions, the reason it was done that way is a lot of spammers started just creating their spam pages in userspace, so we eliminated page creation for non autoconfirmed users. The other thing we can do now that a decent set of filters have been implemented is drop the time constraint on autoconfirmed and only require the 5 edits. I would suggest you start a discussion on the CP and get some opinions on how you guys wish to proceed and I will see that the most appropriate adjustments are made. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 03:16, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
You've already removed the time constraint (see #New User Registery above). —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 14:23, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I realized that after I had posted. Sorry, it's been a hectic couple of weeks. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 18:37, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
We've had multiple users complain about this in the past couple weeks. We have Asirra filtering on user creation and have an AbuseFilter to block (one set of) suspicious usernames, so in the best interests of our users, I strongly recommend we remove these restrictions completely. We'll reserve you the right to reinstate them in case we do get attacked by spammers. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 14:14, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
I have requested the change, I'm not sure how quickly it will get deployed, as most of the Curse staff is on their way to Blizzcon as we speak. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 21:31, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
BLIIIIIIIIIIIIZZZ-KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHNNNN!!! *kirkface* —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 21:35, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
I see in the repository you've made the change to the settings for this. However, you also removed the setting that prevents anons from creating pages. I think we want to keep that, so that only registered users can create pages. So we need this:
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['createpage'] = false;
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['createpage'] = true;
Giga can slap me if I'm wrong, though. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 03:06, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Meh, you are correct, and it was my screw up, so I will fix it. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 03:09, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Changes have been deployed -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 15:09, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Privacy Policy...[]

Erm... this Will we share your personal information with third parties? blends with Children's Policy.... I know it's a separate question, but it can be easily confused with prior... is it suppose to be bold and italics ? (to at least distinguish it's separateness?) As, I know it's a question to the next "statement/answer"... Just wondering... and a little bit puzzled. :-) Ariyen 20:34, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Did you look at the most recent edit? or the original one? Give me a friggin break Ariyen, and quit nitpicking over nonsense. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 20:39, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
Okay, okay. Sorry. Just noticed the latest. Ty for pointing it out. Ariyen 21:29, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
I'm a bit cranky today... sorry for bein snappish. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 22:29, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

1.18 upgrade[]

It seems that there's an issue with using the tabs to add/remove a page from the watchlist. Clicking it gives "An error occurred while changing your watchlist settings for 'PAGE'" error. Edit and Edit/raw still work, thought. --JonTheMon 20:38, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks?[]

For the, uh... mousepad? I assume that was the gift that was being sent out (mentioned way back in October). Jink 21:21, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Idea?[]

I was wondering if someone seems to be "attacking" you, via ips, etc... Would it be an 'idea' to ban them on all wikis, etc. ? And set the registration, editing for non-users to use like images, etc. (Though, would be something each wiki would need to discuss)? Ariyen 02:46, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
